Computer games.

While the wife is back over in England I decided to treat myself to Baldur's gate 3. Amazing game, although no chance I'm going to finish this by the time she gets back. I'll then have to juggle my time unfortunately!

So, first 3 or so hours in. I went into the "build mode" win condition, so no rivals/combat at all, to get a feel for it.

Honestly, even in its current state, it's Banished with a lot more going on. Some content is unfinished (and a friend told me the dev's getting flak for going on a short holiday recently?!) but even with that I'll still sink way more hours than I need to hahah.

Great and ambitious project and so far it delivers on things that other games either didn't, or didn't do it well enough imho.

Oddly enough the only bugs that I experienced that broke things were oxen not wanting to go to their designated place, which didn't impact anything anyway and fixed itself, and a lot of menu bugs when creating the character/banner, and nothing else, no game breaks, no crashes.

Surprised with the 3rd person view thing, very fun to walk around and get a "feel" of your town.
Also surprised to see no water bodies (yet?) in the game, or is that just me?

If/when it gets a few more updates it'll be fantastic, the dev is really cooking it seems.

Cities Skylines 2/Paradox can learn a thing or 50 from this tbh.
Hadn't even thought of water bodies but it would be a good addition. The only bug that was 'breaking' the game for me was that once victory conditions were met and you went into full sandbox mode the game popped up the victory screen after every 24hr in-game cycle but that's been fixed apparently.

A lot of the game mechanics need adjusting and access to information could be better especially in a game that requires quite a degree of micro-management. Something like being able to assign jobs to occupiers of a specific house rather than that specific family would be good as sometimes you'll add a family to a workplace and someone who lives miles away is assigned.

Would also like the ability to semi automate seasonal work - do job x until resource y hits a certain number or runs out then drop it and go do job z instead.

Replaying original Final Fantasy VII on PC with mods has been great.

The mods I've put on have improved the back grounds so they arnt pixelated.
Improved the scenery in battle screen.
Updated the music to the remake/rebirth version
Added wide screen using AI to fill in blanks, this looks really good.
New player models so they don't look like a blocky mess
A voice acting mod which add voices to every bit of spoken dialogue in the game, this is fan made but it's really well done for most part.

It's been like a new game.

If anyone is interested it's just the steam version of Final Fantasy VII & all the mods are free on nexus mods & easy to install using 7th Heaven mod.manager
