Computer games.

Played a bit of EA FC 24 yesterday as it's a PS Plus game this month

It's not too bad

I like that they have a legends team with folks like Pele, Cantona and Guillit in the squad

Apparently there'll be a Euro 2024 game mode coming out in June
Almost 20 years later and i still find good old Pro Evolution 5 as most fun football game, personal opinion of course.

These days player cards and gambling with them seems more important than actual gameplay on the pitch. Of course EA are smart and raking millions on it.

Problem is that there is zero competition. Konami rebranding Pro Evo as eFootball and making it free to play was the final nail in the coffin of the previous King. Will be interesting to see if the rumours of a FIFA game with 2K come to pass. But 2K aren’t shy of using pay to play mechanisms so I imagine any offering won’t differ that much from FC24. Might at least make them think about improving the gameplay rather than basically releasing the same game every year with the same problems.

Konami simply couldn't compete with licenses and financial power of EA.
So yeah, EA with Fifa is sole king without competition and of course with lack of competition come lack of motivation to innovate and improve, what for, people are buying anyway.

2K of course are also notorious for their gambling model in NBA games, but as you say if two big companies come head to head at least they gonna be motivated to improve stuff, we'll see i guess

2K are the kings of half-arsing an entire game, even though they follow the FIFA model of "same game every year". I have 0 optimism for this collaboration or whatever it will be being decent past 1 iteration.

Picked up the PC version of Ghost Of Tsushima.
Really good port actually, not had any problems at all. Been running it at 4K, smooth as.

Looks great and the combat is fun. A lot of open world collection guff though so will probably wear out it’s welcome pretty quickly, so might just stick to the story missions.

Arena Breakout Infinite is great, literally is Tarkov minus all the cheaters and terrible bugs/problems. It's main issue is it just lacks a bit of soul due to it trying to be a clone... the gameplay is every bit as good as Tarks though, if not better IMO.

To be fair, the best aspect of the game is the combat, so it does retain a fair bit of longevity - also the online mode is a blast

Played the first couple of hours of the new Destiny 2 expansion, and it's off to a fantastic start. They spent a lot of time on it, and it shows. Can't wait to get back home from work tomorrow, so I can continue, hopefully without the obligatory launch day server issues.

Street of rage is a good game.

Perhaps I should update my cv with the number of hours I’ve played the various editions of Civ!

Looking forward to seeing what they come up with in 2025, although the last one was super buggy after release.

2025, eh? Put it on your calendar and watch it pass. Unless they've been pluggin' away for the last 5+ years behind the scenes I wouldn't believe it. That or they've not done much, just iterated on the current gameplay/ engine.
