Computer games.

Is it? You've compared clips from some random pro to a "noob" at HL1. As someone involved in that scene I can tell you that nothing has changed - FPS/twitch shooters are exactly as they've been since those days. I've played HL/CS since their inception and still do, at a top/sub-top level (~20-22k Premier; allegedly top 1%?); tried Valorant - same level rank (Immortal) after a month or two, CoD was similar back in the Original MW2 days.

Point is, (other than obviously to brag about being a nolife nerd loser who will easily 1v1 you all), these games have remained the same - graphics have improved and not much else, core mechanics are the same.
LOL

I would smoke you boy.

I believe so, I looked into it a while ago, but it all seemed too much like hard work so I didnt bother.
As is with all old games - tried to start up Wolfenstein Enemy Territory for old times' sake with a mate we used to play it with 15 years ago and it was just a hassle. Did it in the end but after you've been trying settings and fixes for 2 hours you kinda don't wanna play

The only thing that has changed in FPS is the move from largely fantastical (Doom, Quake, Duke Nukem) SP/small team/ffa DM, small maps, to massive landscapes, MMO, 64v64, realistic military based shooters (CoD, BF, Tarkov etc), with the odd slight exception (eg Fortnite is "fantastical" for my usage of the term here, but still MMO/big teams etc).

Surely at that point you have to play cos you've put so much effort into getting it working??

Is it a random pro ? because I come across people doing that kind of sweaty movement all the time in numerous different shooters. People use macros and all kinds of things to get advantages when it comes to movement, head glitching etc. Sure sweats have always existed but since gaming has become mainstream you come across them far more often than you used to. Combine that with every kid going on Youtube to learn the META tactics and you end up with lots of people playing in the sweatiest manor possible.

I also don't have trouble believing that younger generations are just better on average at gaming than our generation were at the same age.

Yeah, very recently shooters moved to "open world" and battle royales, but the 5v5/6v6/team-based are still dominating the market and save from some technologically-advanced gimmicks (RS6 having those tiny cars, etc.) it's mostly a flavour of Counter-Strike. As Valve say themselves - "your favourite shooter's favourite shooter" Also BR (Fortnite, Apex, etc.) are boring imho

SP games still exist and sell well, it's just that they're drowned out and most players, after a while, start wanting Multiplayer in those as well - much like it was for those same games - Q3A exists exactly because of that really. Doom Eternal (and 2016) also has decent multiplayer, if you can call it that, but you can tell it's kinda forced onto the game.

We played for a bit but most servers were entirely bots nowadays, which is understandable, and server owners set them to either "savant God" or "brainless idiot" mode, no inbetween

Bruh, 20 years ago you had sweaty people pulling 36hours sessions on Wow.

Sweats have always existed, theres just a bigger volume these days.

They likely were random pros or sweats/streamers - most kids want to emulate this but fail miserably so it looks like a lot but in reality they're not getting those shots off etc. I actually find it annoying cuz they all look like they have ADHD for the most part.

I knew people who played HL competitively in the early 2000s that played the same way in the "current" highlights you posted, really, but the platforms and playerbases were much smaller - nowadays with Twitch and everything you can see all the things all the time. I got good faster/earlier because I had an insane amount of free time and also had relatives working at an internet cafe so could rot away there for days, doing some random thing, but it was a privilege of sorts as not everyone had a home PC for themselves; nowadays most kids have (rather powerful) PCs from early on and can do this even earlier.

Shocking how back in those days you were a nerd loser for playing a game for ~200 hours, now it's "only 1.5k hours? do you even play bro lmao"
