Computer games.

I'm probably going to make FIFA 15 my next 'big' purchase...

I am a grown man in my 30's after all, so I can't justify spending more than £50 a month on games when I've got a wife, bairn and mortgage.

But that's purely monetary in motivation.

I am not one for thinking that I can't buy games because it's geeky or childish or whatever. Just priorities change. For me, gaming is a legitimate and wonderful medium just as TV and film. Look at some of the PC titles of late. They're so special and thoroughly emotive at times...

The Walking Dead is a work of art.

My mate doesnt understand gaming and asked me to explain to her the other day just what it is that grabs me to spend 100s of hours in these games. I spent about 20 minutes explaining to her why Mass Effect is so amazing. The plot, the characters, the choices, the continuity. I think she got it at the end, but doesnt have the patience for it that I do!

You're right though, if its a good game, good story, characters etc. its no different to watching a TV boxset and following good writing and good characters there. I dont mind admitting there have been moments in games that have had me in tears, same as some films and TV series' have.

Does anybody on GoT play League of Legends and want to do some DuoQ or something? I'm currently a bit addicted, Silver 2 mid main atm. Failed my promos into silver 1 twice now -.-

I play it, sometimes, not as much I used to, keep getting random DCs which is kinda ruining the game for me, plus ive played it over 2 years now so kinda bored with it, im in Silver 3 I think, ive been in Gold promos twice, 0-3 both times, im not gonna lie, I suck hard.

Add me if you want like, EU West MagikTeets.

Just trade the game in

I can't do that, think of the children!

but my question still stands, dosent it seem strange that the biggest next gen game so far has been out a week and not one of the big games reviewers has reviewed it yet?

You can't tell me that bungie has noting to do with that also one of the higher ups saying just Last week that most people will probably never complete destiny because it is so vast and that story line is so long that we find out its only 16 hours long.

to me this is a issue not with one specific game and more a issue with how games are going. bigging up a AAA game with lies and bull then releasing a game they have so little confidence in that stop games reviewers from reviewing it is a massive worry.

but hey some people are happy with boring brown generic shooter that are exactly the same.

Pleasantly surprised by some of the games on the App Store. Some of them are years old but at <£5 I can't complain. In no rush to get a PS4, although I'd love one.

Anyone played any of Brothers in Arms: Road to Hill 30?

dose noone else find it suspect that no reveiws have been released for destiny yet?

The fans reveiws have been mixed but there is alot of negativity coming the games way on the net, with 16 house being a quite short story mode and rumors going round that it is going to be heavily dlc based. also major bugs being reported at a very high level.

The game play isn't exactly ground breaking (halo clone really) and the customization is pathetic unless you spend another £30 pounds on buying expansion packs just seems like bungie are going to be fleecing there players as much as possible imo. yes it is pretty and the graphics are very good but just seems a bit hollow to me, a bit soulless. like it's not there to be enjoyed but to make the most money that can be squeezed out of the customer.

I can't really complain though coz I just bought my ps4 today so I got it free, but if that wasn't the case I doubt I would of bought it with all the crap it's getting online.

It got slammed by Gamespot and Polygon, and has been underwhelming in review scores all over the place.

Hopefully its' failure will begin to slam the lid shut on the FPS genre.

#GamerGate has been really interesting.

There are people who want to standardise every game to appeal to everyone, who essentially want to eradicate niche games. So every single game must be "safe" to be enjoyed by feminists, gays, straight, young, old etc. ahead of the concept of fun and appealing to what the market dictates they want.

Utterly bizarre. Imagine a world where every game was essentially Pong.

Here's what I don't understand - anyone can make a game and aim it at who they want, the same way anyone can make a cereal and sell it/market it in any way they see fit to any audience. Nobody is stopping them, but there appears to be a massive problem with games like GTA being made, because it isn't marketed at toddlers and feminists.

But games like Candy Crush Saga have been developed to target casual gamers, women etc. and nobody has a problem with that - imagine the reverse scenario where gamers went on a crusade to get CCS banned because it isn't aimed at "traditional" gamers?

Again, it's an issue of antagonism and attempts at gaming communism/censorship that is causing the minority of gamers to take extreme measures, who they then use to absurdly paint all gamers as the same; as sexists, morons, bullies etc.

I'm glad you're above taking extreme responses and using them to paint an entire movement though, Tubey,

It actually is an entire movement - that's sort of the point of the whole #GamerGate thing; a rash of news articles over two days, orchestrated from a central mindset.

Not really, the point of the gamer gate thing is to stop women who speak up about games getting abuse and death threats.

What the women actually have to say about games doesn't really matter (some of them do have the mindset you describe, others don't. One gave gta a 9 out of 10 in a review, because she felt she couldn't give it 10 out of 10 because of it's hostility to women, which is a more sophisitcated viewpoint than you're suggesting).

The main thing most people who are talking about this seem to want is them being able to say stuff, even wrong stuff, without getting rape threats or games made where you can beat them up.

Nope, it's really not.

Gamers have taken to twitter hashtag #GamerGate to demand transparency in journalism while game journalists have unleashed the power of the pen to proclaim the death of gamers.

The issue is about a series of agenda-driven stories released to indoctrinate and infiltrate gaming critics, to negatively impact a free market.

#GamerGate, as the title describes, is about GAMERS, of all genders, race and sexuality, who object to being painted as white misogynists, making them out to be bad guys for enjoying games, and how that view has permeated into the gaming critic narrative.

And I'm not sure, but IF you just indicated I think what women think doesn't matter, then that is very indicative of the problem, as you've shown the exact willingness to paint anyone who defends the concept of free market gaming - the right for people to enjoy whatever they wish to enjoy - as sexist, racist or homophobic.

Gamers should be able to enjoy games they enjoy. Women should be able to enjoy games they enjoy. EVERYONE should be able to enjoy games they enjoy - without being negatively tarred with a brush for doing so.

I am enjoying Destiny a lot. It's definitely getting mixed reactions though. It's the perfect game to dip in and out of for me.

Is it quite linear, though?

I think it looks great, but I'm worried it's probably a lot like Call of Duty, but a little more creative.

I'm waiting for Star Citizen to develop off-world exploration...

It's not a corridor shooter but there are objectives to follow. It's very similiar to Halo - I like the fact I can co-op with other players and get through the missions with the help of others.

It's loads of fun.
