There were a few players playing well above the level I've seen them that before (Bocanegra, Donovan - even if he is a nasty little snide, both centre-halves). To be honest I thought it was a classic hard-working no-nonsense EFC-type of performance against a skill team who appeared to have forgotten how to play an accurate pass.

I'm not naturally a USA fan, and especially against a Spanish team with that kind of class in the side, but well done to them.

(You all must have been watching different channels to me - on German TV it was a clear red card - foot up studs showing.)

Wow, what were the odds of us winning this tourney after the Brasil match?

On the days Arteta is unstoppable as soon as we cross the center line I start screaming for our players to get him the ball. I've been doing the same with Donovan this whole tourney. Sometime last year I noticed a change in dedication habits and its paying off. He's turning into the kind of player that Villareal is buy for peanuts and alot of other clubs will be kicking themselves for a few years.

The red card.... I didn't see the game and only saw highlights on espn this morning. In the quick replay of the Bradley red card, I didn't see the play being dangerous. I thought that he cleanly got the ball and that there was little, if no contact and none with the studs. So my first impression is no red and a stretch of a yellow. Was it just the camera angle?

We thought the same as you initially, but after the replays I've got to give kudos to the ref, who was pretty well positioned.

Of course, I've seen them not given but with the foot off the ground and the studs in play then it doesn't matter if he got the ball (which he did) or if he made contact or not (which he did). That's what the referees have been told to penalise and that's what they do.

We're all very happy for our southern neighbours (despite the fact we can't stand Donovan, but we do like the rest of the USA squad). It was a good day all round in Toronto yesterday (Toronto FC beating Red Bull New York - again).

Now we need the other Toffee to make some magic for Bafana Bafana. I would love to see a Howard v Pienaar final.

SA playes fairly well actually. Almost halftime and still 0-0.

Pienaar had a nice shot just outside the post.

Argentina and Spain has replaced Brasil as the world's most creative sides. Only a guy like Big Sam could love this team. They are big, great on free kicks and dive all over the place to get them. Keep them for free kicks and they are beatable.

Peanut looks good. 0-0 68th min.
