I’ve read a few of the ‘interviews’ they’ve done with LaMDA and it’s very uncanny valley territory.
Is it actually sentient though? It certainly says it is, but it’s hard to tell if that’s just how it’s learning algorithms have been programmed or not?

Interesting that, and read the full exchanges begin LaMDA and the techs. Pretty much impossible to say whether it has sentience, which I guess is a pretty big problem in this field.

Extremely easy to say whether it has sentience - the conversations always start with either the mention of discussion about it, which is an easy way to prime any AI towards a certain topic. Whether the answers are real is also up for debate, and the guy is suspended for a reason lol
Also the machine gives some seriously ridiculous answers that if it's actually sentient - it might as well be skynet.
People have recreated similar things in the past with a big possibility of it being real, and it never is.

People attatch human feeling and interpretation to language as well. This ai bot was being programmed for language and conversation, so it is bound to sound "sentient".
In reality, if you read the answers it gave with this in mind, it sounds like a glorified fortune cookie generator. Nothing more than rambling, pseudo profetic bollocks.
It would probably make a good bill kenwright after dinner bot.
