I have often wondered why this spirit is in the Australian psyche, I tend to think it's a kind of "little dog" syndrome. There is a perception we must prove ourselves on the world stage. Cricket seems to be where it comes out worst - beat the Old Dart at all costs.

I particularly disliked Merv Hughes. I may be mistaken, but I seem to recall him gobbing toward an opposition batsman - it might have been another Aussie bowler, but I think it was him. I felt ashamed to be an Aussie.

Call me old fashioned, but I still like good sportsmanship.

Having said all of the above, I think it's funny the bed wetting on here over losing the ashes 😂

Let's not mess around, there's some distinct douche bags in the Aus ranks that give the worst the UK has to offer a run.

lillie ought to have been filled in thrice over, that muskat tackle should have seen him battered! hewitt and his racism allegations another low mark, obviously hopoate will be a a cult legend on here (the rammy Alan B'Stard), chappell is a crying cowardly plate of raw mince, and then there is the creme de la creme - a dirtball that shows suarez in a positive light, step forth peter filandia.
(aus rules "football" is a hotbed of misbehaviour and criminality, it's actually quite impressive that someone dreamed up a sport* that condensed so much walking malice in one place)

Ouch 😂
All Australians crawl back into the holes from whence ye came.

Lived in Brisbane for a year.

Being born in Canada I found Australia was a cross between north America and England. American style shops and retail etc but with British humour and mentality. Also with added temperature and every animal wants to kill you..

It was nice enough there but I'm not sure if I'm desperate to go back. It would be nice if we had stayed but hey ho!

Klim and co giving it back to the yanks (phelps I think) over the smash them like guitars comment. Kyrgios, good fella. Lillee, before my time. Hewitt, tosser. Hopoate, unhinged psychopath, chappell, see hewitt. Peter Filandia, never heard of him.

You could have just said David Warner and Shane Watson.

Decided to bite someones ballbag! I heard he was odds on for prime minister...

I had the opportunity to move to Oz but chose NZ. I've been to Oz few times, through work, Brisbane, and really like it there. I work with a few Aussies and they are great people.

Would love to visit at some point to see the Outback, Great Barrier Reef, etc..

Former supervisor of mine was an Australian woman—probably the laziest person I have encountered in the workplace.

Forget Peter Filandia, I can barely recall him. Let's start talking real Aussie Rules violence. The game has been tidied up in the last couple of decades but it was truly brutal.

One of the worst incidents was in 1972. Jim O'dea king hit John Greening off the ball - no reason whatsoever. Greening suffered cerebral concussion & was in a coma for 14 days. When he left the pitch on a stretcher his teammates thought he might die. He experienced blurred vision & headaches for years. Didn't return to footy for two years after the incident. He was never the same player & retired soon after. Jim O'dea was a policeman.

Leigh Matthews - known as Lethal Leigh. The guy was an outstanding talent yet completely savage. A book could be written about his brutality on the pitch. There were plenty of others like him. Spend three minutes watching this video - featuring just a handful of incidents. Matthews is no3 in the gold & brown jersey.

There is really no end to the thuggery that took place every weekend under the guise of "football". Then there is rugby league........

Pros:

Absolutely stunning to look at especially up the East Coast/Great Barrier Reef etc.
The weather
It's situated at the other side of the world

Cons:

The accent
The racism
The general pent up aggression everyone appears to have, always feels like it could kick off at the drop of a corked hat
The amount of Brits over there
