They're effectively in another race, aren't they? I saw Vingegaard set a new record up the Tourmalet, taking nearly 2m30s off the previous record.

Incidentally, on the Tourmalet yesterday, JV, Pog et al climbed it around 2 minutes faster than Armstrong and Ullrich in 2003.

That'd need to be not just 2 minutes improvement in equipment as the gear Armstrong et al were on would probably be worth a couple of minutes over a non-doped rider, so if the current crop are clean they've probably gained ~4 minutes from somewhere. That's some tasty equipment.

Don't know, it looked to me like Cavendish had it won, not sure what happened but I wonder if he had a problem with his gears at the end.

Bini seems a bit too well-mannered for these TdF sprints - if Philipsen knows he can chop his wheel with no consequence then he's just going to keep doing it.

Impressive turn of speed from Cav - getting closer. Can see now why Carlton Kirby is the new Phil Liggett - just terrible calling these finishes. Itv4 miles better.

Just watched the highlights. Disappointing for Cavendish and he said he had gear problems in the sprint :confused:

In the post race interview he was proper gutted. Shame that could have got the most stage win record outright which he currently shares with Merckx

I found myself screaming for it, having been previously ambivalent. Even Jasper wishes it to him.

I think the speed is there, but fortune hasn't been kind.

He needs to just stop thinking he knows what's going on inside the rider's head

Well it wasn't to be for Cav but maybe it isn't so bad,it would have been unfair on Merckx when you consider the difference in the number of Tours they both took part in.
