Cycling thread

I have to admit I thought Pogacar would have broken Vingegaard in the mountain stages - and his team mates set him up to do that. Vingegaard has done just enough to limit damages. It's been an impressively level headed week of riding from the Dane.
Just one day left in the high mountains. Last of the HC climbs.
If any significant gap comes in the TT then the only way back for either is to attack and attack.

If Vingegaard takes 10-20 seconds on Pogacar in the TT I think it's over.

It puzzles me why Pogacar has used the last few kilometres of climbs to try and get the required time gap he needs rather than constantly attacking on the highest climbs. That conservatism from UAE will be the difference in the end.

Vingegaard out sprinting him for the bonus points looks to have done the job, as you say another 10+ seconds in the TT and it's over.

I suppose the last big climb on Wednesday offers Pogacar the chance to just rip it up and go for it at every available opportunity. The last 6km of Col de la Loze is apparently murderous with a 24% climb at the top of it.

It'll be interesting to see how much Vingegaar puts into the TT the day before with that task in mind.

When someone is doing nearly 7wkg up the climbs, any huge time gap is pretty impossible.

However, that makes no allowance for the odd day when Vingegaard is not feeling great. Last Sunday at the finish on Puy de Dôme Pogacar attacked with 1,500m to go and Vingegaard cracked and surrendered 36 second at the finish. Vingegaard looked cooked that day.

Pogacar has to keep attacking.

First riders are on the road. Probably in the minority but I quite like watching these - I enjoy TTing (testing in UK parlance) so it's good seeing the pros kit and positions. Most not too arsed with their time but the guys putting down power are awesome to watch.

Hilly parcours but apparently not steep enough to justify any bike changes, although you might see the guys contesting KOM comp change to the climbing bike just for that sector.

Not expecting a big differential between JV and Pog - I'd favour Pog to take it by a small amount just on general goat-ness, possibly enough to take yellow but it would be a big surprise to see any KO blows landed today between these two.

Wout the Boss takes to the road.

Ciccone is also out on his road bike with the intention of blowing up the main climb for KoM.

Plenty guys taking a bike change but benefits not obvious.
