Quick question: Do people want us to extend him after this year?

My impression is you will never see a fully fit Gibson, and while there is no argument about his talent and he has abilities that no one else in our side does, my feeling with Barry, McCarthy, Besic, Cleverly and Ledson coming up I think we have enough cover in the midfield and his wages would be better spent elsewhere.

It is a shame, because his first few years he was fantastic for us and really elevated our play but his production for a full season will not match up with his ability.

On a pay as you play/on bench deal then yes it is a no brainer. I would certainly not be throwing £50k a week at him though to be injured.

Not sure but i think the FA have put a stop to pay as you play? If we do give him an extension i could see him being one of the lowest paid players at the club, even thou he has and will again offer us something in the squad i cant see his stock being very high now, realistically he and his agent will know this.

.....he looks a supreme footballer at his best, let's not forget our record in that run of games he started. Indeed I recall it being quite a while before he was on a losing side. Regardless, he has not provided value for money for quite a time now and his off field problems have to be a factor.

Being cynical, players with poor injury records often produce a run of form when contracts are due for renewal. Sign the contract and the risk is that a lengthy spell on the sidelines follow. Fine footballer but doubts remain.

His contract should have been ripped up for sentenced for community service - seldom do you recover from a drink problem - we had already extended his contract? Why as he is hardly ever fit on his day he can be a very good midfielder , but its a rare occurrence imo!

Yeah, United should have ripped up Cantona's as well like...

Wild assumption there. If having a few jars now and again constitutes having a drink problem then at least half the population have one.

So do you often drive in your socks knock a cyclist over write his bike off , and drive into petrol pumps then? half the population do this do they?
Posters on here before this incident were saying they had seen him around drinking a fair bit -
I hope he proves me wrong and recoups to become a much needed player in our midfield - injury prone how many games played since signing?

"Posters on here." As I suspected you have based your accusation on hearsay.

Many people make the stupid mistake of drink-driving every week which means they were over the limit. It doesn't necessarily mean that they have a 'drink problem.' Conversely, many people who do have a drink problem would never get behind the wheel of a car.

What he is guilty of is an error of judgement and making a stupid mistake which he has now been punished for. It's time people got off their moral high horse and gave the lad a chance. Roberto Martinez seems to be prepared to do so.

Let him who is without sin cast the first stone.
