Not sure but i think the FA have put a stop to pay as you play? If we do give him an extension i could see him being one of the lowest paid players at the club, even thou he has and will again offer us something in the squad i cant see his stock being very high now, realistically he and his agent will know this.

What is meant by a pay as you play deal?
Under a pay as you play deal the player will be contracted to the club for a certain amount of time under a standard FA Premier League contract. The only difference to the make-up of that player’s contract than other players in the team is that player will be paid when he makes an appearance for the club.

Often the player will be on a very low base salary and has the option of increasing that by working hard and making appearances on the pitch.

"Posters on here." As I suspected you have based your accusation on hearsay.

Many people make the stupid mistake of drink-driving every week which means they were over the limit. It doesn't necessarily mean that they have a 'drink problem.' Conversely, many people who do have a drink problem would never get behind the wheel of a car.

What he is guilty of is an error of judgement and making a stupid mistake which he has now been punished for. It's time people got off their moral high horse and gave the lad a chance. Roberto Martinez seems to be prepared to do so.

Let him who is without sin cast the first stone.
When you stand off your soapbox as that post is like a religious sermon - I do point out I hope he overcomes it, and his injuries to become a part of our midfield!
accusation over hearsay is not the main latest appalling incident, where he was sentenced lightly!

If he really has this 'drink problem' that you want his contract ripped for, Martinez would have already got rid. He certainly wouldn't be playing him.

You are putting 2 +2 together and getting 5. He made a mistake and deserves a chance to prove himself.

Maybe if he had not have just signed his new contract, anyway look I hope i am proved wrong his injuries are the biggest worry, he has hardly played for us - He is a talent on his day no doubts but his days are as rare and rocking horse muck!
stats below -

Appearances:46 (13)Goals:2 in how many seasons? 13 sub appearences

No you did the comparison not me, an offence is an offence -We seem to look after older injury prone players too well imo ok!

Indeed, but I wouldn't rip up his contract for his off the field sentence.

Cantona felt it was the best thing that happened to him, and coaching a young football team as his community service changed him as a person and got everything out of it. Hopefully the same will happen to Gibson.

Wild assumption there. If having a few jars now and again constitutes having a drink problem then at least half the population have one.
I think getting pissed and mowing down cyclists, and driving into a petrol pump constitute a problem! and a slight bit more than error of judgement, it's not like oops I didn't know I'd still be over the limit is it? Anyhow, not the place for this discussion! Can't stay fit, so get rid although I do think he's brilliant when fit.

As it happened the next morning it does look like that is the case.

His problem is an injury one, not a drink one, or he would have already been sacked. If you play professional football nowadays in the PL you can't get away with having a drink problem.

I don't think clubs sack players for boozing tbh, but if he truly did a hit and run- he should be. He probably is a decent trainer when fit, but he can't stay that way. Beer is actually supposed to be ok for muscle recovery (I'm sure I read it somewhere a long time ago).

No they don't sack players for boozing. But that's not the same as having a 'drink problem', i.e. a dependency on alcohol. A player's physical condition is strictly monitored so if he had such a problem it would be picked up and presumably acted on.

Nope. Get rid. Never gonna stay fit and will get constant injuries if he doesn't look after himself. Don't think he should be placed on the football scrap heap because he's got alcohol problems, but you'd have to assume he's had support off the Club the length of time he's been here, just let some other mugs do it. Plus he's blocking a ledson or dowall.
