"Posters on here." As I suspected you have based your accusation on hearsay.

Many people make the stupid mistake of drink-driving every week which means they were over the limit. It doesn't necessarily mean that they have a 'drink problem.' Conversely, many people who do have a drink problem would never get behind the wheel of a car.

What he is guilty of is an error of judgement and making a stupid mistake which he has now been punished for. It's time people got off their moral high horse and gave the lad a chance. Roberto Martinez seems to be prepared to do so.

Let him who is without sin cast the first stone.

The father of an acquaintance of mine has found the "we only ride our motorbikes after two shots of whiskey and a beer" club (don't worry, not in the UK). I will suggest them they should hand Gibbo an honorary membership.

Anyone see the incident? Or are people going off the reports in rags?

Mowing down cyclists and crashing into a petrol pump could easily be grazed a cyclist and bumped into a pump. He was drunk and shouldn't have been driving but unless someone can tell me for an absolute fact that it was a "Grand Theft Auto" type moment then I doubt it was... otherwise I reckon he'd be in prison.

"Totalling" a bicycle doesn't take much. Was the cyclist wearing high vis, did he have a light on his bike. Did the car mangle the petrol pump? Did it dent the petrol pump? Did it just scratch it?

This post is not meant to be a "leave gibbo alone"... it's more, unless you know for an absolute fact that the incident went down in the way you have it pictured in your head then it's a bit unfair to go distilling any new information out of it. Newspapers LOVE stories like this because they get to colour outside the lines and as long as the underlying story is true then they're safe.

Yeah but a player who gets on the piss and smokes is less likely to stay injury free and recover as quickly as one who leads a professional lifestyle and healthy diet, all other circumstances being the same

Yeah Ok to speculate whether his lifestyle is effecting his game shouldn't be taking away I guess in but people getting personal about calling it disgusting and wanting him sacked judging him isn't on and it reminds me of gossip mags or when sky sports reports something juicey, not about sport at all.

I think comparing Gibson & Barry is interesting, because it shows you the difference that off-field professionalism can have on your career.

People talk about injuries and inconsistency as if some players are just unlucky to be injured all the time, or that their bodies are not cut out to be a PL level footballer, but the truth is that much of it is to do with how you conduct your life away from the pitch. Eating right, getting enough sleep, playing attention to recovery, and doing the mundane stuff in training like taking time to warm up and warm down properly... all of that makes a MASSIVE difference in the long term.

in gibson's defence he has irish blood.

C'Mon the Grand Theft Gibbo!!!

Agreed.
No coincidence is it that the best players in the world (and quite possibly ever) are hardly ever injured.
