“At the moment, it is a situation where we sat down with the player and his representative and it is important for Darron that he plays football,” Martinez said.
“In the same way, he is an important player for us and though we have huge competition for places in that area, his experience, know-how and attacking quality is important for the team.
“If there is a situation that suits all parties then we will look into it but, in the same way, Darron will fight for his place and continue to be an integral part of the team.”
The former Manchester United man is out of contract in the summer and Martinez added: “It is more depending on where and what type of challenge.
“Whatever opportunity arises now, it is a very specific period of four months to play football and to achieve something, whatever it is.
“We will make a quick decision based on that with, always, the player’s benefit in mind.”
