.....he's a fine footballer but you have to balance whether he offers value for money taking his injury record into account. His off field misdemeanour tipped that balance over the edge for me and I wouldn't be sorry to see him go.

Totally agree

I would of used his off the field stuff as an excuse to cancel his contract and save abit of money.

Abit harsh but it would of saved us on wages for a player that has barely played

I think most people would agree that when he's played he's generally been good for us but it's just not often enough. You can't pay a guy to play 5 games a year.

Well, it's not quite as bad as that. In exactly 4 years, Gibbo has made 63 appearances and been in the match day squad 85 times. Not great like, but considering that Kone got an extension after making his 35th appearance in a 3 year contract, Gibbo is relatively flying...

Also, this is the longest spell that Gibbo has gone without an injury since joining. Been available for nearly 4 whole months now! Possibly just making sure he can pass a medical if he does leave...

Co-insidentally after he was arrested for drink driving, rumours of him not looking after his body when he's been out injured in the past!

to be fair though he hasn't played hardly, even Gibson might find it difficult to injure himself without exerting anything other than his right arm when picking up his pint...

Roberto Martinez said:
“At the moment, it is a situation where we sat down with the player and his representative and it is important for Darron that he plays football,” Martinez said.

“In the same way, he is an important player for us and though we have huge competition for places in that area, his experience, know-how and attacking quality is important for the team.

“If there is a situation that suits all parties then we will look into it but, in the same way, Darron will fight for his place and continue to be an integral part of the team.”

The former Manchester United man is out of contract in the summer and Martinez added: “It is more depending on where and what type of challenge.

“Whatever opportunity arises now, it is a very specific period of four months to play football and to achieve something, whatever it is.

“We will make a quick decision based on that with, always, the player’s benefit in mind.”

He needs to go and play football. There's too many players ahead of him now here. He won't even make the bench here unless at least 2 of Barry/Besic/McCarthy/Cleverley are missing. Hopefully he can get a decent move, play some ball and get into the Ireland squad and push for a place in the starting lineup at the Euros. Swansea/Sunderland or Sheffield Wednesday/Blackburn seem the linked possibilities in each division.

We have 4 or 5 players on relatively big wages who won't get near the first team unless there is an injury crisis. They are senior players who won't improve now so it is time for a clear out, bring in more youngsters who will grow into the team. Can I ask for a first team keeper prior to bringing in anyone else.
