Best be some major bullish!ttin going on by Martinez with regards to Gibson and other waste of space players in our squad such as McGreedy, Naismith, Hibbert, Osman, Pienaar ...

McGeady has a contract with Everton and is obviously on a hefty weekly wage.
If other clubs are not interested in buying him but loaning only then what can Everton do only welcome him back next Autumn.

Gibson is a different case. I think that he is a player that RM would like to keep in the squad but cannot guarantee him regular football.
Gibson needs to play every week just to get ready for the Euros as well as proving that he is fit enough to play regular football.

In the summer it will be up to club and player to see if they want to put a new contract in place.

Last appearance was as a sub against Norwich in the league game on 12th of December. Was on the bench until last week against Spurs where he didn't make the 18. Who knows if he'll even be involved this weekend? Linked with Sunderland and Villa apparently...

That's a good move for him, where he'll add quality to their squads and play regularly (assuming he 'gets fit'), and saves a few quid for Everton to boot. Not positive to keep guys hanging around long-term who are not pushing/helping the first XI.

Seems a bit of gossip about his attitude towards fitness, obviously no one 'gets fit' as quickly as they 'get' injured. He has had unfortunate injuries but the drink driving thing is a no no.

Bit frustrating for all concerned though - there's a quote above about his range of passing which is spot on. He can anchor midfield and still move the ball quickly and positively, and has a shot on him. Falls into the Gosling / Billy / Mirallas / Lennon / pile of 'good players we haven't seen the best of'.

Hope he gets the injuries behind him and gets a run in France in the summer, too.

Yeah, heard the same thing on the garbled press conference video - very weird.

Conning everyone that he is still under contract so they pay us a transfer fee?!?!

Ha! Don't know about that. I would put these theories above it:

1) Roberto either misspoke, misremembered or is trying too hard to be 'diplomat'.
2) Offering Gibson hope that if he did well then he could come back and 'win' a new contract.
3) He signed a new contract without telling anyone.

Anyhow, it shouldn't be long until we have some clarity. With McCarthy and Cleverley having some fitness issues though, I can see us hanging onto Gibson until nearer the end of the window when the injury situations should be clearer.

There is a world of difference between the two.

Sturridge has done FAR more them than Gibson has for us therefore he deserves more patience which most of their lot won't give him. Plus Sturridge hasn't embarrassed their club with drunken hit and runs when he's supposed to be working on getting fit. Sturridge isn't a reported alcoholic who cares more about getting wasted with mates than he does about his career.

That cocking dance Sturridge does is a far worse crime then mowing down a few cyclists imo

We need to keep Gibson. He's genuine quality and we've had need to call on him lately and he hasn't let us down.

As for a loan to help him play for his country: he can achieve that better being a bit part player here than sinking with Swansea or whoever. Robbie Keane is guaranteed a place and he's in the MLS ale house league.
