David Beckham Thread

An as MLS season-ticket holder I should want him to stay with LA. But his performances with Milan have been rather special, and he's clearly wasted over here. He's the type of player who's game to some degree relies on his team-mates making runs and givng him options - which he then explots superbly. he's also always had a tremendous work-rate, but much of his work is wasted with LA.

Be crazy for him to return to MLS now. Whatever the gap between LA's demands and Milan's limit, he should pay in the difference himself.

Believe it or not, we still haven't seen him here in Houston.

He was injured two years ago and couldn't play and then was suspended for their match here this year.

I'd be extremely disappointed if he didn't come back to the MLS from a selfish point of view as a Dynamo season ticket holder.

Beckham's game has never been about beating players. It's about getting the ball and putting his pin point crosses.

While Juninho might be better techincally, he lacks the same brain as Becks. I've never seen someone put in a cross or a corner like Beckham. Pin point every time. Juninho is inconsistent too. Becks is much more effective.

Superb player and under-rated by many fans. He's still England best player imo, and he wants to play for the badge too. Not that i'm arsed about England.

He's also one footed, lacks pace, can't tackle and can't head a ball. If he hasn't got time and space he's useless, a big reason why he has never come back to the Prem to be honest.

Great from dead ball situations yes, not the best from open play. Gerrard is a far better player than Beckham ever was, FACT.

Juninho is an all rounder, he has more to his game. It's a shame he's so loyal. He could've done it in a much better League.

Just for you Brownie, just for you.

Problem with that though Toxteth is that he was successful at Real Madrid and is now proving a success at AC Milan.

Now unless you're saying that the quality of those leagues is somehow lesser than the Premier League....

Some people just can't give him credit for being a very very good player. They can't get past the marketing hype and look at David Beckham the footballer.

I am going way over the top, trying to upset Cal.:D

He's a great player, no question about it. He's just suited to Leagues with a slower tempo in my opinion.

As others have said, Juninho has proved he can do it in the french league but never really tested himself elsewhere.

Beckham however has done it in the Premiership, La Liga and is currently performing very well for Milan in Serie A. which is all 3 of the elite leagues in my book.

Perhaps Juninho hasn't moved because he's scared he will flop at a top european club like Riquelme did at Barca.

I will certainly not argue with that. I don't think he could handle the pace of the Premiership today.

When you have the ability Beckham does, it doesn't really matter if you can't head of tackle ffs.

Alot of brilliant players lacked pace, doesn't mean they don't have the ability.

Zidane lacked pace, even Figo lacked alot of pace. Both were unreal.

Same thing in Toronto, Bill - never played here - injury 2 years ago and international call-up last year. But as a true football fan I'd prefer he stays in Milan. (says the AC Milan supporter (y)).

Has Beckham ever scored a free kick from 40 yards? No.

It is close tho, when Becks was on top of his game at Man United, he was one of the top players in the world. Junin has never really got to that level, but he's still far better at free kicks and has more to his game. It's a bit harsh on Becks really, because Junin plays centrally so he gets more of the ball.

As I said, I'm pulling your leg. He's a great player, suited to a slower League nowadays.

Beckham tried to fill in for Scholes once, it didn't really out from what I remember. Which is strange because he's defininatly more of a central player.

He's become more central these days anyway.

He played central for Real Madrid towards the end of his spell and for LA Galaxy.

He's only playing out wide for Milan because of Pirlo.
