David Moyes - Taking a knife to a gunfight at West Ham, Part 2

I think it's fair to say that Lampard isn't getting the best out of a squad of that quality. The netminder that they questionably paid so much for isn't helping, and to be fair that's not on Lampard.

It's honestly not that surprising to me that Moyes got the best of Lampard tactically. The fact that Chelsea couldn't get the job done on talent anyway is the surprise.

Very fortunate that other teams are doing his job of keeping them up by simply being even crapper than West Ham.
Sometimes just putting in a coherent and focussed performance is enough. It's not exactly flattery but right now it's probably the perfect conditions for Moyes to survive.

It’s interesting that Moyes and Ancelotti utilized similar tactics in their respective wins. Old Davey boy was saying how ceding possession was an effective trend being used, and they certainly proved that!

He's got some work to do to make them a more consistent outfit IMO. Some weaknesses in their squad.

He said "far worse" implying that they were a bunch of nobodies when they obviously were not. Merely stating they had a good team back then too which they did...

That's not what I was implying.

I was implying that a lot of those players were not going abroad and plying their trade in the best leagues. They had players getting games who were turning out for Ekeren and Waregem. They weren't blooded at the highest level like De Bruyne, Courtois, Kompany, Lukaku etc.

Now, fair enough, Anderlecht were a good side at the time with Schiffo etc, and Pfaff was excelling at Bayern but the only other player playing abroad was, I think Gerets at PSV. Sporting Lokeren sent a player that got to the World Cup semi final!

You can only feel pleased for West Ham and David Moyes after that. He said he was 'spewing' following that controversial disallowed goal continuing their bad run of being on the wrong end of a few pretty contentious VAR decisions recently.

The players must have been seething especially when Chelsea got a stonewaller soon after, so full credit where it's due. It took real guts to recover from that and get the unexpected and vital maximum points.

It was a different world back then though, most nations had players playing at home, it was only really the Scandinavians who were transferring abroad en masse. Even the likes of Brazil in 86 only had two players playing abroad.

I miss the days where smaller nations had strong sides playing in them.

Possibly, but how long has he been managing at this level? A year? I think he’s doing ok, how many times have we seen ex-players/fan favourites completely fail as managers? Think Kidd, Shearer, Zola etc

Ask one Chelsea fan if they expect to be in a Champions League spot with 6 games to; at the start of the season - you’d have got a resounding no.

Hes done brilliantly this year. He’s got the old guard like Alonso, Giroud and the rest who need shipping out, yet he’s managed to blood Abraham, Mount, and to a lesser extent James and Gilmour.

Next year seems like he’s going to farm out his liabilities like Alonso, Pedro, Kepa and he’s already got two crackers in Ziyech and Werner coming in.

They lacked so much last night, but it almost felt Goodison esque after a bad decision lastnight.

West Ham rallied, even overcame a 1-0 deficit, and Chelsea couldn’t handle it, but the fella has been a manager for two years, I reckon he needs a little more time.
