David Moyes - Taking a knife to a gunfight at West Ham, Part 2

West Ham rallied, even overcame a 1-0 deficit, and Chelsea couldn’t handle it, but the fella has been a manager for two years, I reckon he needs a little more time.

I'm not saying that he's a failure as a manager or anything. It's very early days. Zidane's immediate success is very much the exception rather than the rule; even SAF struggled before getting the machine humming.

Goals for and against tell the story so far quite well - they're a leaky mess at the back and they really should be scoring more with the ammunition they've got. Part of the latter problem may well be trying to cover for the former, and you could argue that trying to defend with that group is trying to sew a silk purse from a sow's ear, but I can't help but feel that other squads are getting a lot more done defensively with less.

They shored up the attack with players that are almost surely comparative bargains, but I don't think that those additions will enable them to overcome conceding at a clip north of once per game.

Last night was massive for them, I thought they were a side that felt sorry for themselves and had no grit. Another 5 points will probably be enough, if they like play like that again they'll get those no problem.

Will be interesting to see what Moyes can do there over a full season and with a summer transfer window. That Bowen kid looks a classic Davy gem signing.

Having Soucek instead of Noble in that midfield really makes a difference

Norwich and Bournemouth have effectively gone for my money, Bournemouth have the chance to rescue themselves but their fixtures look incredibly difficult and it would be a major surprise if they did.

In effect it's one from three, Villa odds on favourites to go down or one of the two real outsiders Watford and the extremely unlikely but still possible, West Ham.

Tbh looking at the bottom three's fixtures I can honestly see a scenario where just not losing against Villa on the final day proves enough for West Ham, even if they lose every other game by any margin at all.

The others will all struggle to get even 30 points and it's quite feasible to see both Norwich and Bournemouth not even getting above 27, with Bournemouth not gaining any points at all in any of their remaining games.

Nasty hit piece on Moyes by Sunderland fan Jonathan Wilson in the Guardian. Moyes stopped the Allardyce football revolution in its tracks, apparently.

It’s a real shame. Glory was clearly around the corner for Sunderland and their free-spending owner!

Came here to post this. Brought back some frustrating memories of his tenure with us. The lowest point for me was probably the 2012 FA Cup semi final. But it also made me feel very happy that he'll never be our manager again.

You need to get real. Moyes is the best we can hope for.
