Give him the the big egos and players are like WTF are you.Give him the middle ground players and he thrives.
He is having a purple patch, his first for about 10 years, he has had middle ground players almost his entire career and won nowt other than promotion and charity shield with fergies team.

Moyes being Moyes again.

Think everyone had wrote him off with the fixture list they had in the first 10 games , even people wondering if he would be sacked after only about 3.

The mad thing is he has a decent team there. He will win games with the likes of Haller / Bowen up front because they are his sort of players.

Moyes is just right for the hammers, they got lucky tonight and hung on but overall he's showing his worth.

His flaws as a manager and the acrimony over what happened with United will mean he'll never be universally popular here and nowadays he's never just a quick fix at a struggling club, but If given time he can improve a lower team, shrewd with his transfers, he can gradually improve their fortunes.

You can denigrate with faint praise - he finished in the top six a few times while listing every fault and perceived grievance or you can remember his early reign here and finishing top four. We were a basket case heading down when he took over from Walter Smith things were really dire then, he turned it around, revived our fortunes and gave better times in the next few seasons. He's not a top manager but a good competent one at the right size of club.

I don't bear any grudges for a million years afterwards and remember what he gave as well as what he lacked, I wish him well.

Thats basically it. He's actually a very good manager for a very specific circumstance, but interestingly doesn't really seem to have many transferable skills. This might sound ridiculous, but for a club on it's backside he is probably one of the best coaches in the world for that specific job. He's one of the few who doesn't really need lots of new signings to get things moving, will be happy to have players signed from 1/2/3 leagues below where they can be signed and can even cope with losing his best players (compare that to how we have coped losing first Lukaku then Gueye).

He converted Arnautovic into a striker and turned him into a top draw operator, and is now doing the same with Antonio. He's a pretty shrewd manager.

That can all be true, but I can think of few people who would probably be as ill suited to managing this current iteration of Everton. Where expectations are very high, there's a high turnover of players and we spend heavily.

I think we need to compare the spending power of the competition. No trophies but his had us punching above the some of all our parts. No other manager has done that
Yiu could say the same fir Chris wilder, Sean dyche etc, they are all far out performing their expected return and, with worse squads than moyes had imo

They are massively benefitting from the empty stadium, I was there as a neutral one night last season, as I was staying beside it mid week and the place was absolutely toxic. Fans fighting with each other, vast empty spaces & on the players back from 30 secs in.

I dont blame the fans either, having to call that scafolded glorified tent your home is awful.

None of those were able to consistently finish in European spots or finish fourth. One of his best achievements was finishing above O’Neill’s lavishly funded Villa, and we were usually above Spurs too.

finished above the RS a few times into the bargain.
