2024/25 David Moyes

I deffo remember they had tripe , but I felt like they had some good quality also but it just never clicked .
Their central defence was disgraceful. They had that Kone guy who tried to force a move here, ironically enough, and then he turned to gash after they gave him a massive contract. But his partner, Kaboul, seemed to be coaching him through games as he was awful when he left for another club that summer.

They were trying to play him with an accent John O’Shea, I think, but O’Shea was painfully slow and well past it by this point.

See i thought they wernt that bad at the time , kaboul has some good experience at spuds and kone was in demand and scored quite a bit from corners. Just never clicked at all for them.

Id have to look back to compare but I felt they had a lot of experience there and a few who could turn a game , it just didn't work .

I think some of the names look good but they were past it at the time they joined Sunderland. Signed on past glories or promise - like Rodwell. I remember at the time it looked like a bunch of desperate signings .

Moyes is Everton.

We all know it.

Everyone knows it.
He really isn’t .
Many former managers and players can lay claim to that appellation.
But not Moyes.
Only near unanimous assent gains you that .
And Moyes , whatever his qualities, is far far away from that .
He is just another mercenary passing through for a second time.
I hope we prosper while he is here , but I have no particular affinity towards him whatsoever.

I think there might be a different attitude in players now.
When he went to Sunderland he had failed at United and Sociedad and been out of the game a short while.
This time he has been a success at W ham. Doesn't matter what the fans think, the players will all know he stabilized them and won a trophy.
Also familiarity will hopefully lead to more respect and unity.
He knows the club better than any of those players (except Coleman).

My personal thinking was that under Dyche a lot of players were unhappy.
The squad was galvanized by relegation threats and points deductions, not solely by Sean Dyche.
And when the imminent threat of relegation was gone and there was no points deductions, there was nothing to galvanize the squad and the wheels quickly came off.
I'm hoping Moyes can change this.

I think the players were hiding behind the negativity towards Dyche (and his tactics) for their performances at times. That will not be the case under Moyes. He’s already challenged the players that they must do better (in particular the forwards). However he needs support in the market this window. We are desperate for reinforcements up front and pace out wide.

I support him 100%. Glad he’s back. He will inspire the team. I don’t care anymore that he left. I haven’t stayed at my job my entire life. I’ve gone back to previous employers and they didn’t hate me. He said things he regrets and has reflected on it. We all have.

We can’t measure success and failure as binary. One team wins the PL. The other 19 aren’t failures. Hardware matters and it will come. But the biggest short-term success that’s measurable will be attacking, better recruitment, and attitude.

It’s attitude, man. He inherited a team in a relegation battle as did his predecessor. I agree Dyche had more to deal with. But is Moyes going to remind us every week about it? No way.

You can feel the change already. He left a decade ago for what he felt was the next best job. Okay. Whatever. Let it go. He loves this club. Like most of us at our jobs and life, we try and usually get better.

I think it’s good he left. Let’s see what wisdom he has to offer that his younger self didn’t have. Let him train up Baines. Now that Moyes is in the twilight years and less out for the next best thing, he can build the next best thing in Everton by growing us, creating our next manager, and maybe moving up into DoF and really providing a huge impact to our growth than he ever could as manager.
