2024/25 David Moyes

They look clueless when going forward, players not even looking to get a pass, except Ndiaye, too many standing there watching the game and not bothered too much to look for a pass.
I had to laugh with the way Doucoure presses the keeper. He stands 3 to 4 yards in front of him and throws a few shapes, and its pointless most of the time as the keeper has an easy pass left or right because no one else is on the same page and are not supporting him.
They've spent a long time without any attacking patterns of play
He'll need more than two days to switch things up

Got flashbacks to "Senior Pro" Young and his hospital ball back to Pickford...well Ollie Watkins

It’s even just the simple round the defence ball movement that every single team in the league can do. Out from the keeper, work it round the back 4, test the ball into the holding mid, and at some point a gap opens to play a midfielder in.

We get about two passes into the move and it ends with the fullback curling it out of play down the line or someone falling over themselves to get it back to Pickford who launches it.

This is passing under no pressure whatsoever and they can’t even do that. When you think that Moyes’ previous teams with defenders like Baines Lescott Distin Jagielka Yobo Coleman etc. were only good enough to finish 5/6/7th it shows you the absolute humongous gap there is to get anywhere near the level needed.

Even watching Branthwaite having to do more with the ball last night than usual, he’s nowhere near John Stones was, or Lescott or even Distin on the ball. Tarkowski can hit a cross field ball ok but struggles with five yard passes and controlling them the other way.

There’s just no way round the problem, the second you want the team to push forward and take the ball on against the opposition they make mistake after mistake and there’s no recovery pace in any of them whatsoever.

well we don’t have them CBs

maybe moyes needs to go 3 at the back

he’s not burnt out already ffs

weve had one game

give him 5 atleast!!!

in all serious we have a chance

i dont think we would of under dyche

but he needs players
I did not want Moyes anywhere near Everton again, with the players he has available I don't think he has it in him to get us out of trouble. I will obviously give him a chance but without signings especially strikers I can see it being a truly awful rough ride till the seasons end. This could easily end up in relegation which would be bloody awful for this club.

Being sensible, I agree with this.

Although Dyche and his management was something along the lines of a blend of an Oliver Twist workhouse from the 1700s and David Brent and rightly needed punting, the squad we have had for ten years has been utter toilet.

The longer time has gone on, it’s got worse and we now have players who really shouldn’t be getting a game in this day and age.

We do have some quality players but that’s not enough for a premier league squad and those with quality clearly are shot of confidence. Before you ask, outside of Pickford, we are short on quality big time.

No manager is going to walk into our dressing room in three days and deliver a miracle so some semblance of patience is required and yes it’s not the glamour forward thinking coach to kick on the club for the future but we are in a position of peril and the focus needs to be on the here and now.

Moyes will be judged but this is all about recruitment now as this group of players are doomed unless we start slotting goals and cutting out unacceptable mistakes at the back.

Oh and stop playing 40 year olds, doucoure and players out of position… that scenario will be on Moyes as it was Dyche.

Said before there's probably 3 players who don't use the ball like a hot coal...McNeil, Ndiaye, Garner...probably Mangala too.

2 of them are injured.

Then there's the "hiding" from the ball too. No one really wants it.

One game in and he’s called out our shortfalls in attack, Dyche would’ve rolled out his non answers for the rest of the season and carried on.
I am hopeful that Moyes will actually actively look for answers, instead of Dyche’s paint by numbers substitutions.
If there is any chance of us looking at Cannon, Thelwell should be marched out on the spot.

Yes you can makes stats say anything you want.

Except me. I just plunder graphs from the internet to make it look like I know what I’m doing.

Me too.

I gently refer you to @Xizor's Davek Venn diagram.
