2024/25 David Moyes

You know what I agree.

I said we needed to see if it was the players or the manager, now 1 game isnt conclusive, but, well.

So we made the change, have we downgraded? I dont think so, so the manager is the "same", so im leaning more towards it being the players.

In short, sign some players, The Summer will be "great" reset time, but can we get enough quality in Jan?

All a bit yikes really.

Just you wait till half the wank players with contracts expiring are offered new ones in the Summer

I don't think we've downgraded.

Moyes is a better manager than Dyche.

Doesn't mean he'll get any more, short term from these players, though. Long term he would - but I'd still rather TFG brought in the man they wanted in the summer.

Issue come the summer is we need quantity, as well as quality and I've no idea on PSR.

The Frankinator I heard.

The Stadium gives us a bump, TFG spreading some debt around also, but its still not great I assume, it doesnt smack of "Lets sign 12 new players" thats for sure.

But step 1 is remaining a PL club.

Yeh I'm not saying every player was hamstrung under Dyche, some are just bad (see my rage at Doucoure and Harrison before a ball was kicked).

The squad isn't great but fully fit it is not an 18th-20th squad - we showed that last season when we effectively finished 12th. We haven't gone backwards just losing Onana who spent most of the year with a broken neck watching the ball soar over his head.

It's both the manager and the players, it always has been.

I expect more goals under Moyes simply because he seemed to ignore the frailties of the team last night and tried to have a go.

I'd like to say I'd expect more goals against as well, but I'm not sure simply because that was Dyche's biggest failing this season imo. Putting aside we have a poor and inconsistent attack, this Dyche team was not doing Dyche things most of this season.

Having a go produced very little last night, however, which is down to the players.

We haven't been healthy which has definitely affected our results, agreed.

And the health thing has made a comparison from last season to this season misleading. On the flip side, these guys are old and breaking down, it shouldn't be a surprise. I also think expecting an aging squad to duplicate a performance, year over year, is folly. They're all a year older, which given many of their ages, the chance that their performance will fall off a cliff is much greater.

He needed to inject some energy and drive into the team on Wednesday night. He failed spectacularly. I’d have played 3-5-2. Played big 3 centre half’s, had Dixon & Harrison as wing backs. Played Mangala or Doucore with Gueye and Armstrong, play Beto with Ndiaye off him. We can argue about some of those personnel but he needed to make statement and have a go. Instead we got Dyche light and it all felt flat.

Moyes is a bit dour at the best of times, but to see him so beaten after less than a week is a bit concerning like.
Ye know what annoys me managers signing multi million pound contracts then complaining what tools they have to work with.

I’m sure in his interview for the job he was saying yes I can work with these for now but we need a couple of additions.

I seen bits last night that he will get more from this group of players.

*clears throat

If DCL had slotted that fairly easy chance at the end the narrative would be much, much different.

Thats football hey.

I think this will come against Spurs!

He literally had two training sessions before the game last night.

Il be amazed if Harrison and Doucoure start against Spurs or if they do it will be in a different set up.

I was happy that he was so clearly very unhappy with how we played, and the general state of the club.

Because we have played worse than that this year and Dyche has seemed content or thought we did ok.

But yes, to hear him so down after less than a week, is maybe not a great sign.
