I think our major problem is our wage structure. We’ve got gash players on high wages, which hopefully over the summer we’ll see a significant reduction to (a la doucoure).

We won’t see spending till we cut the wage budget.

If that was the case, it would be obvious in the accounts that we had money to spend. We don't. There's no secret agenda from the club. Newcastle can't spend either, yet are objectively the richest club in world football.

He’s had a bit of a nightmare in there. Could have said it’s incredibly tough, but be assured, we are trying everything. Even honestly is fine, but looked defeated.

Question: “If none come in, is the current squad capable of staying up?”

Moyes: big sigh, eyes glaze over, look mournfully at the desk. “I hope so.”

He’s been fantastic in interviews over the last two weeks. Massive change in tone. Why on earth wouldn’t you say, “Definitely.” Not like it’s legally binding.

Either that or he’s trying to panic TFG into thinking scraping through as we are is too risky. Which it is. Or maybe surprised at the total disinterest agents have in even talking to the club in its current situation.
