What has changed since last weekend to make him go from what seemed very optimistic, to pretty downbeat.

Surely he already knew the budget for this window last weekend ?

I find it all a bit strange to be honest and the press conference was not what I expected

Looks like they are waiting for the summer if I understood what Moyes said correctly. So essentially it’s let’s hang on till the end of the season without getting relegated before we can spend.

And we will need to with 12 players out of contract in the summer

I doubt many players take much notice of other teams managers pre match press conferences. Only time they probably see any is if they are name dropped specifically.

I guess it fits. Moyes is on record,current spell and first spell here, as saying he doesn't want to bring in players if they don't improve us.

I guess maybe he's coming to the realisation the players we want may not be currently affordable. None of that is his fault.

We're not competing with those clubs for players in this window, apparently, so it seems irrelevant.

That's as good an effort as I've ever seen from any manager to ensure a y player being approached won't sign and maybe that's the intention - he really doesn't want the players Thelwells said he's going for.

My read is that Moyes really is at loggerheads with Thelwell and if Moyes stays beyond the summer there's zero chance on earth Thelwell stays in position.

I doubt Thelwell is going to last much longer tbh. This has been another terrible window and even the Manager seems to be hinting that he isn't impressed with him. We needed new players the 1st January and here we are with about 3 days to go, lost 2 big players and still not a single signing to help insure the clubs stays in the premier league.
