2024/25 David Moyes

I loved Davey and the teams he built here during the first 11 years he was here. I was gutted when he left for Man.U, but I understood his reasons for going and wished him well.

I then lost all respect for him with the sneaky Baines/Fellaini stuff. It was disrespectful. Add in the not allowing Howard to attend FF, and I rejoiced at his failings at Man.U, Sociedad and Sunderland. He looked washed up and I thought serves him right. I baulked every time he was linked with a return to us. He then went to West Ham twice and did well while we became a basket case.

When West Ham let him go, I found myself warming to the idea of him coming back to us. Call it nostalgia or the fact that we'd fallen so far, but I really hoped that somehow it could happen.

He made it clear over the past years that he had a great deal of affection for the club and you know, the older you get in life, the more you realise it's better to hold onto and cherish the good times rather than dwell on the not so good things, so I forgave him for those mistakes he made. He's human FFS.

All things said and done, he's a bloody good manager, vastly experienced, and an Everton man. I knew given time, he'd restore positivty and an identity to the club, something which we haven't associated with Everton for a long time.

The fact that he's already made strides to achieving that, mixed in with the mutual affection between him and the majority of Evertonians, has made me start to fall back in love with my Everton again, and that is effing priceless.

Tbf, in the end a lot of people would consider to leave a company, if you have the chance to take over a very highly decorated job with much more possibilities.

There were things that made me angry like the Fellaini hijack or some newspaper articles. But being human, we all said things that we regretted in retrospective or did some things, we wouldn't anymore.

I read your posts from the thread back in 2013 when he left Everton. Its clear you were a fan of Moyes but wanted to move on from him and forget him. You never turned on him so you have the perfect right to take the line you take now...but that's not the case for many others.

I REALLY hope they dont force me to go back into the vaults...
All you'd prove by doing that is that you've way to much time on your hands. For real Dave, you really should speak to a professional about this desperate need for attention. There are better ways to interact with people then spending your life playing contrarian on a forum just to get reactions.........

That said, I blame Bill Kenwright, the cuck, for that.

It is possible to be angry at someone and then, over time and as events change, to get over it Dave!

Personally seeing Moyes looking very pale at Goodison with the specter of death literally looking on and getting sacked afterward drained most of my animosity towards him. He went through a tough few years and I thought he was past it but then he recovered some form at West Ham.

Think the appointment works at the moment for both of us.

The appointment will work well: that's because we've replaced like with like and Moyes has a bit more 'presence' about him to get 5% extra out of this very ordinary squad.

But onto the substantive point: I dont care if he's moved on and others feel the need to walk their outrage at him back because we're now reliant on him managing us to safety.

People can do what they want. BTW, there'll be plenty like me who wont be in that camp.

Bottom line here is you have to have some principle. This feller turned his back on the greatest manager and one of the finest players we've had. He also threw the good wishes of the Everton support back in our faces when he started acting the snide at United and demanding our players be released for their own good after years of telling us at Everton that no one can better than themselves elsewhere.

As said: I hope he gets us well clear of this mess by Easter. I think he probably will. But this isn't about Moyes the manager it's about Moyes the man - and I find him wanting massively. Hopefully he's here short term.

Just out of interest if you feel that someone has “wronged” you in any way in your personal life do you never forgive them?

What could Moyes say/do that would make you forgive him for what most of us acknowledge as very shoddy behavior in the wake of his move to Man Utd? Perhaps you could spell out what could change your opinion?

Nah, it’s about football, you’re going too deep. If he delivers people will be happy, if he doesn’t people won’t. Get over it and move on.

Depends on the scale of the betrayal. In this case it's a pretty big one. To think that HK could've gone to his grave as an outsider to the club and treated like 💩 is beyond compression in terms of scale of betrayal.

He could apologise to the family of Kendall and say he was wrong to marginalise him and that he hopes they can forgive him.

They were literally playing at a rec with some scaffolding around it about 10 years ago. Can’t wait for the bubble to go burst for them.
Off topic, but:
At my last job in Perú the foreigners I worked with were mostly English. One of my closest coworkers there was a woman from Brighton who left the UK in about 2005 or so. She didn't really care much about football, and her one comment about it to me was "Even after a few years of it, it is so strange to me to see them in the Premier League; when I was growing up there, they literally played in the park where I did my school athletics meets - not like there was a stadium there for them or anything, but in the actual park itself." That's always stuck with me.

I handed him 100% backing when he came here in 2002, such was the relief to get Smith out the door. I backed him continually until about 2009 when he started to go to bat for Kenwright in the media denouncing fans for asking Kenwright stand to aside and generally support Bill.

From that point until 2013 he did the firesale bit for Kenwright to keep him in position and never pushed for players to crack on. He did a god job, but he didn't rock any boats and he continued to emphasise that we should be more than happy with getting to 40 points each season and then see what happened after..

The feller's record here is more than a little bit tainted.

There's no harm in remembering all that while also hoping we get safe as quickly as possible with him in charge. I know we will because he's a decent manager.

Yeah, it really angered me at the time, too - but anyone still angry about that after all this time must struggle daily with grievances about all sorts of things.

My doubt about Moyes coming back when he’s been previously mooted for a return was founded more in a bit of disappointment that we were lacking imagination or ambition. Not even Kendall could make a return work, and a he had a couple of goes at it.

But this time round, ‘better than Dyche,’ was all I really needed in the emergency timeframe in which we found ourselves.

He’s surpassed my expectations so far, both in terms of results and his general manner. I’ve warmed to him again, which I hadn’t really expected to do.

But ultimately, how long he stays will rightly be governed by results.

I’m happy to wait and see.

It's not really like for like though based on this season. How many goals did Everton score from open play in the last year or two?

Dyche did a superb job during the first 18 months of his tenure given the circumstances. The signs were there though towards the end of last season after securing Everton's premiership status they played exactly the same turgid football in games that were effectively free hits.

I was so disappointed that Dyche effectively lacked the coaching ability and skill to play even slightly more progressive football this season apart from the first 80 minutes against Bournemouth (which were excellent yet ironically his poor game management lost the game). I thought he was fully capable of producing what Moyes has done in the previous three games yet sadly, he simply wasn't up to it.

The football and results were woeful this season.
3 wins in 19 games.
Moyes rolls in with 2 wins in 3 games and arguably deserved a draw in a competition match against Aston Villa.

If you haven't seen the difference in the team pressing higher, developing more progressive patterns of play and crucially creating chances during the past 3 games (particularly the first two games] with the previous 19 games this season with the same players, then I suggest you visit specsavers my good friend.

Jake O'Brien not starting a league game under Dyche was shocking in itself.

That said, I blame Bill Kenwright, the cuck, for that.

No one could blame Moyes for going to Man United, they were the biggest team in the Country then. Don't blame him the way he left either as someone said earlier that was Kenwrights doing. Lot of fans were a bit disgusted how he tried to lowball deals for some of our players, Baines a laughable £5m bid, but he never got him, he got Fellaini for £27m which allowed us to get Lukaku a far better player for us for £28m . So no I hold no grudges against Moyes, more the tinpot leadership we had at the time.
