Confirmed Signing Davy Klaassen

As I keep saying, theres many ways to unlock a defence, theres many ways to break a wall.
I suspect we'll see Lukaku replaced by a traditional number nine, a wide player that can actually put crosses in, and Barkley replaced by someone (probably Klaassen) who Koeman thinks can tease out an opening and/or take one if opponents sit back in numbers.

Utterly predictable and probably futile.

If Ross is moved on his creativity will be replaced within the squad by somebody new.

Klassen is not to replace Ross, hes to add to the attacking intent of the side, only a fool would fail to see this.

Yeah. I don't think he is a replacement to Barkley as much as he is a different option. I would hope we are in the market for another creator if Barkley leaves.

To be fair we could do with an 8 or 8 and half, like Super Tim Cahill.

I think it's a fair starting point to cut his goals and assist record in half coming from Holland as a realistic target for the lad.

I am open minded about the lid, I have seen him only a little and the description I posted above is the impression I was left with, he's on the end of things as opposed to the spark.

I'm all for giving him a clean slate on judgement. I do remember Ron bigging up Jordan Claise when he signed for Southampton and he has been tepid at best in and out of the Southampton team.

The lad is likely to get his chance, but this one comes with concerns and might be prudent to manage our expectations of him.

Hope he does well obv.
The feller didn't have a clue when faced with a ropey United team sitting back and soaking up.

I have no faith in this signing. At the very very least I expect a player to have pace. That can help enormously in this league. He doesn't have it.

You mean his manager and his young team didnt have a clue when Jose showed them a masterclass in trophy winning?

Yeah, I agree.

I agree that we are still missing this. Barkley's creativity relies on him being a bit more ball dominant than I'd like. We need someone that can switch the field quickly and hit some of those world class through balls on the spot. Klassen, who is capable of picking a pass and playing in tight areas, isn't one that will make the extraordinary pass frequently. My one concern Dave, is that those players don't really grow on trees. Klassen will still be a quality addition to the team regardless of his shortcomings.
He'll have good technique. It's not like we're signing Naismith or some terrible footballer like that. But I'm far from convinced he'll offer pus too much more than we have.

I am really glad that you said that because that is the comparison I have heard the most lol

We will find out soon if he ends up being more than depth really. I hope that he brings more goal-scoring to the team because we will need it.

I saw it and I would agree, but I'm not going to be to judgemental on the lid as Mourhino and his tactics can suck they joy and life out of any type of creative football. He broke the Barca code at Inter when Barca were in their pomp. So taming a gang of Ajax kids was always going to be predictable.

I see the lid as the arriving late body in the box ala Lampard or Cahill and the give and go kid in the build up, eventually getting into the box to support the front man.

He comes with a hit and hope warning, on the plus side he has bags of head room to improve, on the down side Koemans rating of the likes of Claise who had a similar standing in the Dutch league worries me.

The pace I'm not concerned about Cahill and Lampard weren't blessed, but had the drive and mental toughness this lid is reported to have.

It's a hit and hope for me but I'll give the lid a go.

My philosphey always is if your going to give a manager millions in wages you have to back him, they live or die on decisions like this.
