Confirmed Signing Davy Klaassen

Its inevitable when we sell such a high value asset, maybe 2 if we think Barkley can still demand a price. Unless we buy players who are in or want CL football (therefore demanding massive fee and wages) it would require up to 5 players to make up that inflow.

We are in a position where I feel we need heads more than ever (quality of course). So we can expect at least 4-5 quality players in the £30m range with a bargain maybe in there (Sandro). That would leave us square if we get everyone we after. No issue with that. If we throw in a surprise £50m player.. that changes the stakes.

The thing is, if we get in our current targets Pickford, Keane, Klassen and Sandro we are still light in terms of numbers for a squad, we lack fullback cover and ideally we could do with another CB, not to mention we lack attacking players, even after signing those 4 players, we are still IMHO 3 players short of a real squad. Now im vastly aware we have young talent ready to step up, but if you look at the current squad :

You will notice we have a few concerns with regards injuries, Bolasie and Coleman are pretty long term and with total respect, I would be very surprised if Lennon was to return, happy to be wrong of course.

So as I say, adding those 4 players improves things, but we would still be short of numbers and real quality in certain areas.

Then theres of course the issue of sales, Barkley if sold would need replacing, same for Lukaku and probably the same for Niasse, Geri and anybody else we shifted from this point. So whilst I agree with the "we are only spending the Lukaku money", when/if Lukaku is sold, he would STILL need replacing, same with Barks and so on.

So we might well have a low net spend, its not every year we sell a player for 70m+ tho.

My mantra is clear and concise, as long as Ronny gets the players he needs, ALL of them and if Ronnys happy, im happy.

People (usual suspects...) mentioning net spend already. If you sell a player for as much as you are in Lukaku and get a big fee for Barkley you are more than likely going to have a small net spend even if you buy 150m pounds worth of players. Add to the fact Cleverley is fetching something like 8m lol.

In the days of Kenwright we would sell Lukaku for 80m and spend 40m. Anybody having a go at how much we are spending is doing it because they just like to have a go at the club.

I see the cash being spent now as deductions off the fee likely already agreed for Lukaku. Pickford + Klaassen = circa £57M. Subtract that from, say, £80M for Lukaku.

We'll get a few quid more to play with if we sell all those deemed surplus to requirements, especially if Barkley leaves. But we have to count the pennies. We will have a very low net spend, IMO.

Pack it in you absolute WUM.

haha @davek i just read through 10 pages of this topic and i have to admit that although you seem te be a little bit negative you also have a lot of good arguments. :p

Don't worry mate, i'm sure you will love Klaassen as well next season. ;) for both player and club this is a really good transfer.

Don't think so, here is nothing he likes about Everton, I have heard Kopites having nicer things to say about us.

Wait, doesn't Dave want us to find these gem Walsh signings like Mahrez that came from poor leagues like the French 2nd division?

So basically, it's not the league that's the issue, yet again it's the fee.

God damn you Everton getting a rich owner and spending more money than normal!
