Decent bars in/around town centre

The Denbigh, Bridewell, and Newington Temple are the best boozers in town for me

Nothing to do with them being all about the Toffees either
Bridewell looks boss (and run by Dom and Fiona--good folks who I met when Dom was at Fly in the Loaf). But it wasn't there when I was staying in Liverpool back in 2014/15.

Back then we were staying at University of Liverpool, so we tended to go to Fly in the Loaf, Caledonia, Belvedere, Philharmonic, and Grapes (sometimes the Blackburne for brunch). Other places I liked were Ship and Mitre (very genuine place), Berry and Rye (for a high-priced yet fun outing), Baltic Fleet (another genuine sense of place here), Roscoe head (when you wanted to feel old man-ey) and Pen Factory (was great for a loud open-feel stay w/food...some good German beers if I recall).

Damn, miss your excellent city!! Hoping to return soon. ( Edit: I'm pretty sure I say all this every 2 years or so)

They also run the Denbigh, which is magical. Don’t live in town these days but whenever I’m in, make an effort to get across - same with The Bridewell. Just good vibes about them.

Ship is also a favourite!

Honestly, you don't need to leave Dale Street and it's offshoots.

Ship and Mitre at the bottom end, Rigbys/Lady of Mann both decent and always have guest ales on. Just around the corner you have the excellent Denbigh Castle with its cricket playing weasels (no, really.) Even the Railway up around the corner from Moorefields is a decent boozer.

Plenty of places to eat around there, too. (Rudys with its outstanding Pizza for one)

No shortage of great bars around town now - just steer clear of Matthew Street and Concert Square and you'll be sound

Even around Bold Street has some good boozers - Newington Temple, Shipping Forecast, Spanish Caravan, the Red Lion, Belgica etc
They're technically Slater Street, where you get a bit of a mixed bag. The Duke Street end (where Spanish Caravan & The Red Lion are) is generally a better bet than the Bold Street end. Just down in Parr Street off the Duke Street end is another new(ish) bar called Seven Brothers which is also worth checking out.

In the end went to Bridewell but it was too full and nowhere to sit (and too cold outside), so found some nearby small place for a quick drink, bit of food in Renshaw Street Food place and then to Shipping Forecast which had good beers but was dead.
