Is that it? The right side is defensively weak. I still want Hamez in the middle and Iwobi on the right. Iwobi has actually started playing now although his final ball in is terrible. Feel like he makes the right defensively stronger as well seen as Hamez does nothing in that regard. Which would mean Alli would come off the bench for Hamez. Would be nice to have some speed in the middle. Also leaves Siggy out all together and Gomes will be on for Doucs. Bernard as cover for Richy. What about Gordon?

This is how i see it too, which us why i dont want alli. The team the other night was well balanced with richy and iwobi performing their derensive duties well.
Put james on the right and we are back to the original problems. Put james in the sigurdsson role for me with no defensive duties is the best option.
I always think back to carlo saying last year we had only 1 right sided player, that being walcott. James has proven that playing there unbalances the team. Iwobi will never be the long term answer no matter what the question is.
So please swerve alli and get a right sided AM please, Bailey fits the bill....

We don't have goal scoring mids we need a goal scoring midfield.

Ali himself has only scored 23 in his last 3 seasons. He started well under Poch but has dipped in a Spurs team that as you say out score us and out perform us. It’s not like the guy was bit part either, he’s had regular game time but seems to be going backwards. Many young English players have gone the same way. The fee Spurs would demand and the wages he would demand wouldn’t be worth the risk IMO. Loan would be about all I would go for and even then if he does regain form Spurs will have him back.

I couldn’t agree more. Now we have a mobile screen (Doucs/Allan) in front of the defence it frees up Hamez to do nothing but dictate play in the middle with a free role to go anywhere. Having some quality on both wings and DCL snapping up chances would make us a formidable team.

Alli is better alround player than Cahill. Cahill was a great talisman, a tenacious fighter and icon, but a footballer he wasn’t

We won't get him permanently, and I'd argue that we should only take him as a short-timer with something to play for in any event.

Well they will have to at some point, or they lose him for nothing, he seems totally out of favour and I can’t see José leaving for a couple of seasons, so that will leave Ali with one year left on his contract.

Levy will hope he smashes it somewhere on loan and they can then get decent money.

I must admit I haven't noticed that searing pace and ability to leave defenders for dead in him.

At the end of the window I said we were one quality player short in our front 3. Somebody who could cover for both Richarlison and James or allow James to drop into a midfield 3. If we had a Zaha or Sarr type player I'm convinced we'd still be top of the league.
 
I'll only start relaxing about this when it gets to page 200 and West Ham, Wolves and Newcastle are being touted.
