But nobody did say Alli was better than Gerrard, Scholes or Lampard?

He really had some spectacular games. When his head is in the right space he is a fantastic false striker or a 10. Doesnt give up, gets out of crazy situations and got a lot of 2nd balls in the net. He had I think 18 goals in the 16/17 season. Thats 2 more than our dedicated striker DCL did in his best ever season (under ancelotti). Outside the box he sometimes reminded me of Davids, the fighting never say die spirit. But he needs players around him and he definitly needs defensive cover. And putting him as pivotal 10 will make it easy for opponents to just man mark him out of the game. I just hope he gets to that pre-mourinho form again. If he makes the difference in one or two games for the win until the end of the season, that would count as a succes for me. We need 3 or 4 wins to be safe.
Provided we stay up, I think Alli will be a replacement for Richarlison, who I'm sure will leave in the summer.
Richy is a great player and one of the only players in this squad I like, but he is very difficult to fit into the team as he doesn't necessarily have great attributes to be a winger or main striker.
A front two of Calvert-Lewin and Alli could be very productive, provided that Alli can rediscover some of his old form. When you look at his goal clips though, a lot of them come from excellent long diagonal passes from centre backs or brilliant back post crosses from Erikson. We don't have anything like that kind of supply line at the moment so he's going to have to be more creative in a midfield three you would expect for the time being.
So, after probably a 15 hour day, including travelling from London, undergoing a medical and negotiating a new contract, he gives a quick interview at midnight and uses the term “him” which Dave thinks is a sign that he has a serious attitude problem
Amazing
I also think you look at peoples raw materials.
Gray has always been very quick and a great ball carrier. He needed a team where he was just put in to play, and probably made to feel like the main man (like he wasnt at Leicester with Vardy, Mahrez). But you have Grays pace, you always have a chance.
Alli is quick, but hes also 6 ft 2 and a good finisher. Honestly his goal at Goodison a few years back, where he takes it down on his chest, in mid air, and volleys it in on the way down, was one of the best goals I've seen.
At the age of 20 he scored 17 league goals (without penalties). Alex Ferguson told Mourinho he wanted him at United over any player. At that time he and Kane were discussed interchangeably on ability.
It went wrong after that. But at his core, 6 ft 2, good with his feet, powerful, quick, a good finisher-theres lots to work with. Seems to genuinely like Lampard too and Lampard likes him which doesnt seem to be the case with Mourinho, or briefly Conte.
I think he was coasting and bored at Tottenham. I think Lampard in the way he is, a bit like Moyes was, will model to people what hard work is. Forget even technical stuff he can show people, he will model them hard work. I'm hoping he just needed a move and a change. It happens a lot. You get comfortable somewhere and learn to do "just enough". He has a big point to prove here.
I see Gray mentioned, and I love Gray, but honestly Alli is another level up if he gets his head right.
Dele Alli was still top class until the latter half of the 19/20 season. Mourinho couldn't get a tune out of him post lockdown.
It's not been four years but 18 months. Fingers crossed Lampard and Goodison are the spark he needs. If so, we have a tremendous player on our hands.

Pienaar maybe. It’s rare I think though. Also, let’s not forgetAny examples of players having great early career, tailing off, then coming back strongly?
I hope not but sadly I think one of them will be off the summer to bring us back out of P&S scrutiny. He definitely needs to be played as a 10 but in a free role when we have the ball.
We'll see how he does for the rest of the season and then if Richarlison does have a large bid for him from PSG or elsewhere then the funds will help rebuild the squad.
Im not sure he or DCL leave if Lampard gets us up the table.

Out of the two, I think Richy will be the first one to leave as he makes sense for PSG to replace Mbappe with.

Did you miss the “coming back strongly,” there, Father?Francis Jeffers, Michael Branch, Danny Cadamarteri, Jack Rodwell. And that's just Everton!
We'll be more open if they both play but we'll also be more dangerous ourselves and likely control possession a lot more than we've done in a long time. So it's a balancing act mate.Do you think they can play together, or would we be too open? That's my only concern.
