2021/22 Dele Alli

I genuinely don’t care what anyone does in friendlies. When Dele was at his best he was crap in training and these are basically training games - all that matters is what he does in competitive matches and I thought he looked decent but unfit when I saw him last season. If he’s now going to be fit then I’m all for seeing what he does in the league.

Open goal yes...but goes through a defender and keeper and he sees it late, can't adjust his feet.

Bad miss but it's not like he had a clear run at goal.

Great defending. Seeing he knows 99.5% of the time he will be facing his own goal he tried to do the trickier clearance than an easy tap in. In preseason that is the kind of forward thinking I like to see.

Take note Michael Keane.

Awful miss but why he isn't starting the game says to me Lamps still doesn't trust him which is worrying as he's one of the few that could score and create for us.

He should either be entrusted to play upfront with Calvert-Lewin or we should be hawking him around other clubs and offer him as a free transfer. These appearance based add ons will be very difficult to accommodate if he's not a mainstay of the team as he'll simply never play, which means he'll be the latest in ever growing line of players who cash major cheques here for doing nothing.

A DCL - Alli strike partnership is just about the only thing that remotely excites me about the upcoming season. It has the (slight) potential to even upgrade us as a team as DCL and Richy complimented each other poorly when they played upfront together. It's a huge gamble though and one that Lampard may avoid altogether. If he sees no place in the team for Alli then he must be moved on.

Agree with this - not quite as simple as it looks perhaps as it was rifled into him and he was possibly unsighted by the goalkeeper and a defender

A reminder of what the guy has done not so long ago:

His decline coincided with Mourinho's time at Spurs - perhaps he crushed his confidence, as he's been known to do with some players

Find it hard to believe the player he was has completely disappeared though....

Another example of really poor decision making and deal making by the club.

We were in a tight spot last January, could see why you might take a gamble on him for the second half of the season to see if he could help us stay up - although o wouldn’t have personally.

End of the season we take stock, didn’t do enough and off you go back to spurs. We then have his place and huge wages freed up to bring in someone who will start for us and contribute more.

Instead, we can’t send him back, we’ve committed ourselves to his huge wages, hey taking up a place in the squad and we’re going to incur a transfer fee we can Ill afford to pay if we play him - and we’ll have to play him because there’s no one else.

Just pissing money up the wall on Hail Mary gambles.

TBF you'd think if we/Moshiri hadn't wasted a loan spot on Bengazi we'd have probably got Dele on loan. Instead we got a "free" player picking up 100k a week for god knows how long and can only play about ten more times before it costs £10m.

Genius business.

Baffling signing when he doesn’t seem to fit any of Lampard’s systems. He’s a proper 10, always has been and his best form came playing just behind Kane at Spurs. Unless we revert to a 4231 or something that has a centre attacking mid he’s redundant.
Agree, another reason it was bizarre business - he’s that sort of Tim Cahill player, finds space, pops up and scores goals. If we had a team of top chance creators, clever schemers and we had nobody getting on the end of things, I’d see the logic in the gamble. As you say, we don’t have anyone creative creating chances, it would be mad to think Dele will do that role and to top it off, Lampard doesn’t seem to want to play a formation that fits him in. Baffling.

Is it known who‘s actually responsible for this deal?

We can only hope he wants off & there’s an MLS or Saudi club who’ll bail us out.

Why would Spurs take him back?

'If we can only just get the real Dele, than we have a player'
