Exactly. There’s a scenario we pay ten million and he still doesn’t recapture anything like his old form this season but I trust if we pay more for him it’ll have been worth our while!
That lad has 6 games to show his ability. No chance we allow him to 20 games and trigger that 10 million fee without him bossing it like he used to.

The issue with this is that we are still committing to his full wages for the next six months, and given our parlous state, that is possibly not a risk the Club is not willing to take.

It is very unfortunate that we are in the position, because had we been in better financial health, we would be a brilliant environment to be chips in on our support for Dele and to hopefully bring him back to his former glory.

I truly hope we find a way in this current environment, but I am pessimistic we can deliver it.

Good to hear that the club, and others, are actively supporting him with his ongoing difficulties.

In terms of his football career, and his possible future with EFC, only Deli himself can determine that.

I'm now retired, but have over 30 years as a professional dealing with issues of abuse and related matters.

I hope I am proven wrong, but I get the sense that this young man's demons are not behind him.

What makes you say that

What makes you say that

I honestly believe his 'career' with EFC is done.

No way will we play him the required number of games to trigger the next tranche of monies to Spurs.

Will Deli see this as another 'set back', and how will he react?

As previously mentioned, I hope I am proven wrong, but my instincts tell me his troubles may not yet be over.

That 20 game, 10 mill fee will effectively prevent him having a chance at Everton. Even if he gets himself back on track, theres no way we're giving spurs 10M. We simply dont have that sort of cash. He will train with the squad untill his contract runs out and his best chance of rescuing his career will be a loan move somewhere.

The very simple answer to Deli’s footballing problem is for Spurs to renegotiate the contract and change the 20 game clause thus allowing Everton and Deli some time and space to get himself back on track. While his problem are his own Spurs have been his employers for far longer than us and, if help is going to be afforded to Deli then Spurs have a moral obligation to chip in.

Why are people acting like we couldn’t spend 10m if Dele is back to anywhere close to what he used to be?

Last season we spent more on Maupay, McNeil and twice that on Onana and our situation will have at least slightly improved with the Gordon, Kean, Simms sales and getting big earners like Mina off the bench
Money upfront id imagine, the incomings youve mentioned will be paid over a number of years

There will eventually be a time to think about the financial side of the deal with Spurs, but that's for later on in the summer I would guess.

Let the lad get himself fit, hopefully play some preseason football, and then down the line we can think about the longer term and what's best for player and club.

This is a valid concern versus the way we’ve structured deals recently to be fair but honestly if we’re a premier league club who has had net profit and trimmed the wage bill massively over the last few years and we can’t free up 10m if Dele can be Dele again we may as well just fold the club and give up

He's at an absolute car crash of a club in such a dire financial state that they seemingly can't afford a relatively modest payment due as part of his transfer agreement, a club that's hurtling towards a third successive relegation battle having survived the previous two seasons by the skin of our teeth, with our only signing so far a 38 year old journeyman. I can't think of a worse club for him to be at tbh.
He could be at the tin mine.
