But , this deal also ties up Spurs in knots and prevents them from having any chance of getting any money back in transfers from Dele.

We, I think, cannot afford to play Dele because of the 10m trigger.
This means he will probably go on loan and in twelve months time is a fee agent.

If the deal could be restructured to allow him play an addional ten games with the seven already remaining and if he was lucky enough to return to his form of a number of years ago I think we would gladly pay the fee... we would have a good player... Spurs have a chance to earn 40m.

If it doesn't work for Dele , they have not lost anything but at least gave the player a chance to play.
Won't happen mate.

I so want him to become the No10 we don’t have. Ironic considering we bought 3 in one window.

If he elevated us to an easy season without the grind of a relegation battle then he’s worth the £20m over 38 games or whatever the pay points are.

i wish he will stay (assuming we can afford him). i think he could be ideal playing with Danjuma / Gnonto if he signs. I mean both Danjuma/Gnonto can play central, but are not the back to goal strikers. That is why we need DCL / iheanacho (if he signs). But Dele could be a great option to have as well: playing either the nr 10 role or a false nr 9 with one of the wingers mentioned.

His bravery in giving that interview is to be commended. It’s horrible that he’s had to endure the things he has, and I wish him nothing but the very best in his recovery.

People on here, though, need to swerve thinking that this one interview was some magic elixir that’ll suddenly make him not crap anymore. Yes, of course, there were massive, extenuating circumstances behind his fall from grace in footballing terms, but that doesn’t make the fall any less real.

He’s not going to succeed here because he’s not good enough at football.

Hopefully we can give him the best support possible while he’s here, and he can choose the right club for him going forward.

This is bonkers. You can go and see how good he is at football. His issue has been addiction and mental health problems, not ability.

He's hit performances and heights in the game that not one other player we have has or ever will do.

We can't deny the lads ability. How many times did he start for us? How many minutes did he get? He was a luxury we couldn't risk but even so I recall the assist in the build up to Richarlisons last second crucial equaliser Vs Leicester and him turning around the Crystal Palace game.

It's a real shame how the deal has been structured. Helps nobody.

We can't rely on him next season, nor risk paying the fee but we don't really know. Have to trust Dyche and his team to know whether they can get him going.

If he can do 70% of what he did at Spurs then he's our best player.

Disagree with this, one of the most talented player's I have ever seen live.

If he isn't taking tablets daily that would numb him completely & has the hunger / love for football again, then he can get back to where he was for sure. He is 100% good enough at football, no one in our team is close to his level of talent.

I'm sorry, but I can't agree with you, mate. His undoubted talent hasn't been seen, apart from the odd classy touch, for years. My, neither extensive, nor expert admittedly, experience of serious mental issues is that they're like WWI, with every advance being small and painful. If the guy was a full Everton player, I'd have a small degree of optimism that he could produce the odd cameo appearance toward the end of next season, and gradually move on from there, but he isn't our player, and we can't invest serious money based on worthy optimism.

Lets see where he is. As someone who has had experience of MH issues, (both me and my late partner), once you accept it as normal, understand why it happens, and learn to deal with it, this thing called clarity arrives. The fear goes, the reasons become understandable, and you can junk the meds that really do not help without ^^^^^^ being arrived at. You also know when an issue is brewing.

Only he knows where he is. But in my experience, baring your soul to the public, or in my case, to friends and family, is a pretty significant step after the many steps he/we took in private.

Agree re the deal structure.

Even in his last few years at Spurs, though, he wasn’t going close to 70% of what had come before.

There was zero basis for us signing him, beyond the foolishly optimistic “if he can rediscover his form…” nonsense that we’ve fallen for so many times in the past.

It was a very Everton transfer and it has turned out very Evertonly indeed.

Again, though, I agree - it’s a shame the silly deal structure means that we can’t even properly test the hypothesis that lightening his mental burden might help.

Agree 100%. Do you think, though, after years of repressing everything he revealed, and spiralling in terms of footballing ability, that his return to former glory - if it ever happens - will be instant? Or even happen in less than a season? Or <7 games?

We can’t financially afford to be Guinea pigs here. If we send him on loan and he DOES immediately come good, do you think he’s signing an extension with us?

Whichever way you carve it up, he’s not going to feature in our plans.

Financially we cant afford to give him a chance. In reality, hes going to have to prove that he will clearly elevate this team and play at a high level if hes going to get on the pitch. Hes going to have to heavily outshine everyone else before they can risk playing him. Maybe in the end that will be the driving force to get him back to where he was?

putting all other things aside his playing abilities and motivation has been abysmal for years. Hard to come back from that and personally I think he's done. But Ofcourse theres possible cinderella story brewing here. Anything is possible I quess but hey...he's also injured. Infact I think his days in football are pretty much over
