2022/23 Dele Alli

Would you have paid it for Gazza at Dele’s age? Total loose cannon, injury prone etc. but was one of the best attacking midfielders in the game who could make something out of nothing.

That is how good Dele was at peak too… I doubt he’ll get there again but we have to consider it!

….crazy, crazy.

So you want us to stump up £10m for a player who has hardly paid for 2 seasons, with known issues off the pitch and who’s contract is up this season just in case he turns out to be like Gascoigne even though he’s never been as good as him.

Honestly, I know we’re desperate but heaven forbid.

It’s sad but we just can’t afford to take a 10million risk on Dele. Ridiculous deal from Kenwright in the first place - the idiot.

I imagine he will be out on loan by the end of the window - hopefully to somewhere we can play consistently and enjoy his football and life.
We are about's to take a 15m risk on an unknown youngster.... I would rather roll the dice with Dele.

If, after his recent interview, he has cleaned up with regards the sleeping pills, he may salvage his career yet. Whatever happens though, it is clear he has struggled mentally and I hope he can beat his demons and get some form of career back. A fully fit and clean Dele could be an asset.

Keep me right here, and apologies if already been went through.
Do the appearance clauses only count within the term of his current contract ie if he only played 6 times this season, his contract ends, we then offer him a new one come next June, would he be able to play without any payments due to Spurs?
Same as if we sold him now and bought him back, the clauses would have finished?
If that makes sense?
If so, it could be in his/our best interests to spend this season building his physical and mental condition back up, giving him limited game time and then if he is in a better place come end of season offering him a contract on reduced wages.
There's no one knocking down the door for him as it stands and don't think his stock will rise externally if he plays half dozen games this season, but it could work for both parties in the longer term.
If we could get him back to a decent level for next season and at no outlay other than agree salary then the club may well be looking at it like that.
I'm not relying on any output from him this season but it would show we are doing things smarter behind the scenes.

….imagine giving him a new deal. This gets better. We’re not a charity.

if the lad gets his health right, then good luck to him but we should be saying goodbye asap.

Give the lad a whole lot of love and time on the ball and he will deliver.

….absolutely, just not with us.

If we do stump up 10m for him this year then he is up to the standard required by Dyche.

You would like to think if the club, manager, teammates provided an environment where he was comfortable and did manage to rediscover his form, he wouldn’t want to bugger off to somewhere “better” when his contract expired. Would seem very foolish, and I imagine the resulting mutual love-in between him and the club/fans would keep him here. In that sense he would have been cheap.

Not in any way suggesting any of that is likely to happen. He has a massive mountain to climb in terms of football form alone, and such turnarounds are so rare. But it’s not a given that if he played lots of games due to actual good form, triggering all sorts of payments to Spurs, he would just walk away for nothing and all those payments were effectively for just this season alone.

The shirt thing seems odd if he isn’t getting any chance at all. Maybe the media don’t know everything about his contract. We’ll see anyway. Hopefully his personal development continues, but from a football side I’d be chuffed and shocked if he can flick the switch back on after so long.

Hope he can get himself sorted just in a human sense never mind football. But from a business sense, it’s like what if he can get back to what he was or even 70%. If he did that he worth 50 mil at least. But the issue is he only has 1 year left. If he a good season he could Simply walk for free to any club that want him, after we have done all the hard work plus the money we have paid. Tricky situation especially with are current financials. No doubt 10 mil for him to ensure we stay up probably good investment, but that’s if he can deliver. Glad I don’t have to make that decision. Either way hope you can get yourself sorted dele.
This is why things will require three way negotiation, we can't take the risk of paying for him knowing he can just walk away, so there needs to be some give from him in terms of giving us first refusal to extend. As much sympathy as we all have for him, he's the only person who has benefitted financially the past couple of years so there needs to be an accommodation from him too.

If we have that assurance, we could offer Spurs maybe 5m for the right to play him for the rest of this season (since it's still a big risk), then next summer if we want to renew him another payment for the second year, but could also them the option to sign him back for say 10m-15m next summer and / or a 50% sell on clause so Spurs are covered if he is a success.

I'm sure there could be solutions found if all three parties can compromise.

It’s surely of no benefit to Spurs by us not playing him due to the pending payments.

Go back and attempt to renegotiate the payments.

That way Spurs still get something.

Otherwise they’ll get nothing, which just seems silly.

We aren’t though are we. Down payment on that will be nowhere near 15 million.

I doubt we have 10 million to hand to splash out in one payment - and isn’t that only for 20 odd games then there’s another payment further down the line?

Yes, but do we know if the clauses will continue beyond his current contract?
This would make a huge difference to our financials.
If he's on £100k a week now that will mean we pay him just over £4m between now and end of June then can offer him a reduced salary contract going forward with no other financial outlay.
No £10m every time he plays 20 games etc.
That's what I'm trying to figure out
