2022/23 Dele Alli

….I would go nowhere near triggering the £10m for a player with his fragility.
Would you have paid it for Gazza at Dele’s age? Total loose cannon, injury prone etc. but was one of the best attacking midfielders in the game who could make something out of nothing.

That is how good Dele was at peak too… I doubt he’ll get there again but we have to consider it!

Well.......lets see how he gets on. lol

I dont think we are getting betterr in the market for 10 mill to be honest.

While im also thinking we usually spend 10 mill anyway sacking a manger and his staff around the first week in Jan, lets not do that and spend the money on having a sprinkling of creativity in our midfield. Its usually dead money anyway - so im not going to stress about it. If we can bear it for that we can bear it for this and let it add value to the squad. We are in for 5 mill anyway on his wages anyway so put it to work rather then write it off.
But the problem is it’s not just the 10 million after 20 games, but the next payment after that which reports suggested would be the same. If he played a full season we could be on the hook for 20 million and even then he could walk away at the end of the contract.

There’s just no way that can happen without renegotiating: we’d need to negotiate one full and final payment with Spurs (maybe with sales clauses etc) and we’d probably need to negotiate an option to extend with Dele.

At the same time, it’s worth remembering nothing has been confirmed by either club as to what the structure actually is, just media reports, and nothing would necessarily be announced if the structure changed. It’s perfectly possible Dele could just trot out for a 21st game for us without a word being said.

It’s sad but we just can’t afford to take a 10million risk on Dele. Ridiculous deal from Kenwright in the first place - the idiot.

I imagine he will be out on loan by the end of the window - hopefully to somewhere we can play consistently and enjoy his football and life.

We were supposedly about to pay £30m for that Bilal Toure. If you’re telling me that you wouldn’t pay £20m to have Dele play the season (if he’s near what he used to be) you’re mad!
Toure would have been here for 5 years though and there's a decent chance of making a profit on him long term.

Dele's contract runs out end of the season. £20m for a top form Dele Alli for one season would be too much. The version we'd be getting makes it a massive risk.

Ultimately I'd love for it to work out for him here. Just can't see it under the current deal structure.

Yes. I support the lad in turning his life around, whether that involves playing football at whatever level he’s still capable of or whether he just retires. But he is never kicking a ball in the Premier League again.

My take is we are desperate for a bit of creativity and if we get him fit and his mind right he's worth seven games to see what he can do for us. If it looks like it's working out then he's worth the £10m for the remainder of the season if not we cut and run, but if it works out I reckon he'd want to show some loyalty to us and wouldn't necessarily go to the highest bidder for his services as I think he now realises the importance of the support he's been given and will need in the future.

Hope he can get himself sorted just in a human sense never mind football. But from a business sense, it’s like what if he can get back to what he was or even 70%. If he did that he worth 50 mil at least. But the issue is he only has 1 year left. If he a good season he could Simply walk for free to any club that want him, after we have done all the hard work plus the money we have paid. Tricky situation especially with are current financials. No doubt 10 mil for him to ensure we stay up probably good investment, but that’s if he can deliver. Glad I don’t have to make that decision. Either way hope you can get yourself sorted dele.

Keep me right here, and apologies if already been went through.
Do the appearance clauses only count within the term of his current contract ie if he only played 6 times this season, his contract ends, we then offer him a new one come next June, would he be able to play without any payments due to Spurs?
Same as if we sold him now and bought him back, the clauses would have finished?
If that makes sense?
If so, it could be in his/our best interests to spend this season building his physical and mental condition back up, giving him limited game time and then if he is in a better place come end of season offering him a contract on reduced wages.
There's no one knocking down the door for him as it stands and don't think his stock will rise externally if he plays half dozen games this season, but it could work for both parties in the longer term.
If we could get him back to a decent level for next season and at no outlay other than agree salary then the club may well be looking at it like that.
I'm not relying on any output from him this season but it would show we are doing things smarter behind the scenes.

TBH I don't think anyone knows the exact terms, it's just been press speculation. Is it PL appearances? Is it starts only? Total guesswork.
