He could have been world class, certainly. Had he not gone to United and instead gone to Spain just as the Messi / Ronaldo show was starting he probably would have been, and been spoken of as being up there with them in ability.

Instead he went to a club that was still winning things but was on a fairly clear downward trend.

Are you saying Rooney wasn't world class????

Hot take that.

I think Rooney was definitely world class. And as for not wanting it enough, thats crazy. If anything, he wanted to win so much, he sacrificed his own personal glory.

I have personally, never seen another player for Everton with the level of ability he had other than maybe Southall.

He had everything.
Spot on! In my opinion he was the most talented British player in my time, and that is quite some time.

In the great scheme of things, when viewed from after his career is over I don't think he was. He absolutely had the potential to be, but would have had to go elsewhere to prove it.

Sorry but that's just garbo. All opinions but if Rooney wasn't world class then you must only think about 3 modern players have been.

Regardless of what people may think. He is one of the greats players of our Generation. There are plenty of Mancs in work who go the games and have said his contribution was bigger than Ronaldos when they played together and Fergie played him all across the park because he could pretty much trust him to play anywhere when he was at his peak.

I dont understand with the concern regarding the 10m fee.

If we trigger the payment it means hes played in 7 games, which would surely suggest hes done enough to get games?

As somebody else said, its a win, win.

…brilliant, he plays 7 games we pay £10m and then has a relapse of his personal issues. I sincerely hope that doesn’t happen but it’s a possibility, especially for a footballer who has played little football for 2 years and couldn’t complete a loan for that very reason.

That isn’t ‘win win’, this isn’t La La Land.

Or, he plays 7 games, we pay 10m, then he plays another 20 games, we pay 20m, he then signs a 5 year contract, becomes Captain and becomes the first Everton player to lift the CL.

Win, win.

Checkmate.

It’s a possibility for an athlete to get snapped in a bad tackle any game any day and I think it’s harsh to say because someone had these issues it’ll likely happen again.

Dele has made a big step to his personal recovery from his personal issues and I back Dyche who is great at man management to make sure we don’t get into a situation where we’re wasting more money without the reward.

Ultimately, I can see both sides but there’s no right or wrong answer here without knowing what level of fitness, ability and mental strength he can get to again.

Crazy talk. The only thing I will say is that his England career was a bit disappointing (I think even still he was England's record scorer before Kane). However when it counted he didn't really do enough for England.

His best tournament for England was when he was still with us in euro 2004. I wonder if he hadn't got injured in that Portugal game whether we would have gone on to win the whole thing. He was on fire at that time.

If he plays well and is consistent, i honestly couldn't give a toss how much it costs us in extra payments. All i care about is having players putting a big effort in and playing well for us.

Hope he does absolutely boss all season.

Dele Alli is a huge talent but in recent seasons for different reasons his form has fallen off a cliff.
However, form is temporary, class is permanent.

I don't understand how people on here who know absolutely nothing about the player personally can be so certain that he can regain his form or never will do.

Have you met him and spoken to him, listened to him about where he thinks his career is, where he wants his career to go and he he thinks this should happen ?
Have you seen him rehapping or training ?
Is he still a poor trainer as has been reported or is he making the extra effort to get back to his best ?

None of us know this I think but the management team who work with him every day will have formed an opinion and maybe we should wait to see what that is.

…of course a player can get injured in a tackle. Any player can get injured in a tackle, including Deli Alli. It‘s a daft argument because this is an additional and very real risk.

There is a right answer here and it’s for the club to act in its best interest.

Forking out 10/20m on Dele after he finds his mojo here only for him to reject a new deal and bin us off at the end of the season would be very Everton I have to say.
