2022/23 Dele Alli

…..it’s risk management. It’s a few years since I retired from Project Management but I’m sure a few on here have sat through hours of boring risk assessment meetings and will know the Delli Alli risk scores.

We are critical of how our club is run. Engaging Alli has cost us dearly, throwing more millions at him exacerbates the mistake. Throwing monies away paying off poor Managers is symptomatic of dreadful club governance and shouldn’t be used as a reason to waste similar on Alli.

The lad might return to his glory days, but he’s played very little football in over 2 seasons. Notwithstanding his personal issues and the risk of relapse, the sensible business decision has to be cutting our losses rather than Chuck £10m at him and cross our fingers. I’d much prefer to spend that on the young S American we’ve been linked with.

It depends on what risk you are assessing though, is 10 million mission critical - no. Does 10 million and Dele Alli give you a better chance of not taking a 100 mill drop in revenue if relegated - when goals and creativity are a source problem! Then you are into from PM point of view - business case and quality assurance, cost/value analysis reviewing alternates - say is paying £15 mill for Dele in fee and wages, better then buying say Stuart Armstrong for £15 mill from Southampton, or £40 mill on JWP in addition to Alli's wages.

Again it depends on the risk you want to analyse - is it saving money or is it staying in the league - risk management- it has many systemic variables and impact which again is systemic.

Some of our fans would genuinely be happy if we reunited the Barkley, Lukaku and Deulofeu triumvirate this year as if the clock is suddenly going to rewind to 2013/14. We have a terrible terrible problem letting go of the past in this fanbase.
We do. We also have a unique and weird thing that our fans do. When we have a player, he's often deemed awful and not good enough. When they leave, quite often I've seen them suddenly talked about in an entirely different way. Mina and Davies have been praised all summer. Some of the comments I saw about Davies had me checking they were talking about the same Tom Davies. Deulofeu is another one who's painted so differently now he's left.

….ha, ha, please find me that post.

I’ve posted many times that I’ve seen 3 world class players since 1963 playing for Everton. There are a few on the fringes that I could be persuaded to consider but Leon Osman is definitely not one of them.

I do rate him highly, though, for reasons I’ve explained lots elsewhere on here. A procession of Everton managers have clearly thought similar and indeed one England manager so I’m happy with my opinion of him.
Who are the three? I'd say Southall, Alan Ball and maybe Rooney.

…Ray Wilson (not Rooney but he’s certainly a consideration).

I think World Class is a descriptor used too often, when it really should only be used for the absolute tops. I define it as players who would get into any side on the planet whilst they were playing for Everton.

If anyone’s ever deemed Mina awful they are completely clueless about the game to be fair. A liability due to injuries, absolutely. But yeah it happens all the time, people were advocating bringing Robles back as number 2 and when he was here he was an absolute joke among the fanbase.

You forgot the angle of the dangle theory.

As a club, we also have a duty of care. I'm sure he will be monitored and assessed periodically to mitigate the risk.

5 X 5 matrix:
1. Initial risk X severity
2. Introduce control measures and monitoring
3. Residual risk X severity

3 should be less than 1 after implementing 2.

…that brings back bad memories. So glad I retired.

Took part in at least some of the training session that was just released on YouTube. Wasn't involved in the small-sided game though.
