Sometimes it’s nice to do something for someone in need when the only party to benefit is not yourself.

Yes he’s loaded, but the lad is clearly not right mentally. If we can help him by letting him train while out of contract then I can’t see an issue.

We will not benefit but it’s a nice thing to do.

We may well benefit if other players/agents catch onto how well we've treated him.

Well he's reported for pre-season and can't imagine Dyche letting a free agent come in and rock the boat.

May be a point of conjecture, but would we no longer owe Spurs any fee if he was now signed on a free, post contract expiry?

That would surely negate any previous contractual obligations with Spurs. Would be no different if we sold him and then re-signed him... Spurs can't impose the old agreement... can they?

Either way, can't wait for him to get back to his best and score the final ever goal at Goodison... for Southampton.

2. Things mate.

We do have to pay spurs if we he plays this season, regardless of his free agency status. It’s why Everton have tried to renegotiate the deal with spurs

Secondly, he’s reported back to training as part of his rehabilitation programme. Its part of the player care arrangements that clubs have, players are offered the chances to utilise the facilities and expertise of the club they were last at if injured.

I am guessing that Everton are talking to Spurs about reframing the deal, maybe allowing Dele tp play another 20 games before they are entitled to some money.
Everton could then offer Dele possibly a six month contract. As it stands Spurs have no hope of getting anything.

Dele could probably earn more money in the States or the Middle East but I think it comes down to what his ambitions are.

he's definitely there with a view to staying on isn't he, there with full training kit, looks like he's included in everything there as well, Dyche must think he still has it in him

I cant see how we'll need to pay spurs anything, he's a free agent and didnt play the required number of games during that previous contract.

“Renegotiating with Spurs” is not an option, and anyone who things Levy would bend even slightly to benefit the player or ourselves needs to get real.

Gotcha. Imposing the 'fee-paying period' (not sure that's correct terminology) to run longer than the contract was signed for is just such a Daniel Levy move.

Understood regarding player rehab. Legally we have to offer it, but also think the club could be putting him on the back field out of sight if they reeeally wanted to, not in the main training group. You wouldn't keep him in those circles with new signings arriving if there wasn't a sniff of him actually playing.

I honestly don’t know what’s happening but they’re hardly going to make him wear his vest and undies like he’s forgotten his kit are they .

Renegotiating the deal absolutely makes sense for Spurs.

If Everton are interested in keeping the player and giving him a chance then we are the only hope Spurs have of getting anything.
If Dele leaves Everton then Spurs get nothing.

Everton cannot afford to give Dele a new deal and pay Spurs a fee, it would be lunacy.
If Spurs do give Everton a different alternative and Dele somehow regains his form then Spurs will get a fee from Everton.

Why is he back training with us after his contract has ended? Can he not train with Spurs, since he seemed well able and happy to go down to London to watch them while not being fit to play for us? I`m all in for helping former players that are having a bad time of it and getting them back on their feet, but have we not done enough for this guy already over the last 2 years, 100k a week? We owe him nothing, so what are we doing getting him fit so he can play elsewhere.

it must be a very complicated contract, as even when his contract has expired, if we sign him to a new contract, we still have to pay spurs a fee if we play him?

Personally I don't see a way were he plays football for Everton. I think we are just trying to help him out, let him train with us at the moment while he finds a club. Because he has had mental health issues in the past, imagine how it would look for the club if we didn't do that and something bad happened to him.
