Anything other than a target of winning trophies and lots of games this coming season isn't good enough. We should be fighting on every front to break the trophy drought

I won’t speak for poster on here but I would have thought most people wouldn’t want him, given his poor career (not form) since 2018 and the fact he really did nothing for us since signing.

I just think (speculate) that the ‘emotional cross’ as you put it are examples of posters looking for a silver lining in the club’s thinking IF they do decide to extend his contract but there is nothing to suggest given what we have seen with our own eyes, that it would be a success. Just a further drain in scarce financial resources.

It wasn't meant as an insult, and I know you don't care either way mate. We all want Everton to win trophies etc. I doubt I'll get to see it happen again, although I can but hope.

You see this is entirely the wrong self image you have of yourself as an Evertonian

The Everton that won trophies is what we should be projecting as our self image

Every single day. Not relying on a player that's barely played 26 times in 3 years and expecting him to be like a star player fantasizing over it

We need to shake up the views that our fans have both of themselves, how they view the club and how they view football

It needs to be colder. More logical and not like that ex Chairman pushed. It needs to be about winning stuff

I'm resigned to Everton signing Dele. If he performs. Great. If he doesn't people at the club need sacking for their failure and then we bring in people that will win us trophies.

That simple. It's about trophies. Winning games and getting Europe. We can celebrate when we've done all that and people can romance when we're doing that
 
Just getting off the sleeping pills will be massive for him, he'll have much more energy and focus and that's why I think they're willing to see what happens.

My own caveat and I suppose everyone's, is wages, needs to take a 75% pay cut in my opinion and if he gets back to any sort of standard we renegotiate.

I'd go as far as to say 90% pay cut. It's not a stretch to say that Everton FC has saved his career, and he's given absolutely nothing back in return. No other club wants him, this is proven by the fact that he is currently without a contract yet is with Everton in Ireland. He should be thankful for £10,000 a week. That's still on average around 15x more than the average fan earns. Sadly, very sadly, he'll probably rob us for £50k or more. I don't even go to games but that riles me up no end seeing people like him so undeservedly be handed millions of pounds for literally nothing while those that pay the club, the fans, often live paycheck to paycheck.
 
I'd be willing to give him a chance if he was willing to take a massive payout...

There's still a player in there and he's young enough to get his head right and rebuild the fitness side of things...

He also owes us as (no fault of his own) we've paid him handsomely for miniscule output so far, and we've helped him out with his medical and personal issues clearly more than previous employers

Barkley doesn't have a history of necking benzos and toking balloons whilst being under contract as a professional footballer. He's also been in bloody good form, which is why he's signed for Emery at Villa to participate in their Champions League campaign. I have no idea why you are even making this comparison, what do Barkley and Dele have to do with one another?
