Confirmed Signing Demarai Gray

Gray has never assisted more than 3 goals in a season despite playing 30+ games, he's a winger. That is not on any level someone we should be looking at, stop making excuses, we already struggle for goals and assists. His highest goals season was 4, combined(G + A) he has never has a season with 5. How on earth is this helping us?
the gray transfer smells a lot like the whole Josh King thing last season. short term, low cost, flip of a coin.
Do we never learn?

I remember when people said "dat Zaha never scores much".

Sometimes players just develop/blossom look at Ings and Lingard at Saints/WHU.

He'll know its last chance saloon at the highest level and can see him actually doing well tbf.

He'll essentially be used off the bench in the last 10-15 minutes to pin the opposition back with his pace as Richarlison rarely misses games through injury so wont be starting.

Not a problem with it meself.

He's 1.5/2m though, I have no doubt he'll be a better option than both iwobi and bolasie who cost the club around 50/60m.

Even if he is rubbish, we could still probably sell him for a similar amount.
It's not about the bloody money,. he still needs to produce on the field, what gives you the impression he will. He has played in the league 5 years and gradually declined to the point he wasn't even making match day squads, it's a ridiculous signing.

Zaha, Ings and Lingard have all previously at some point had decent seasons, can you see the difference, we know their ceiling is higher than they mostly show, this is not like that.

He had a lot of potential as a kid, which is why leixetser signed him, he's been crap since to he honest but ye wasn't really playing every week at Leicester.

Not saying it's a good signing like, it's not but at the price we are paying it's not the end of the world.

The townsend one has baffled the life out of me though

Sometimes you need a different manager.

It's happened loads where players have reacted well with a manager, and played their best stuff, then when they move on, they're not the same player.

By all means, I don't think we're signing a superstar, but if Benitez can find a way to get him consistent, having only just turned 25, it's a good signing. He can't be worse than Bernard, surely?

He's had Ranieri, Shakespeare, Puel and Rodgers. All thought he was cack apart from a bizarre spell where Puel decided to drop Vardy and put Gray up front.

I hope he does well as it's a shame if he fails to perform again but it is a shocking signing.

You're hoping that he's the guy who in his last two seasons got 2 goals 3 assists in 580 minutes (that's 1 every 116 minutes) and 1 goal two assists in 450 or so minutes (so 1 every 150, in total that's about 1 every 130). He might not be that guy, it's a small sample, but the idea that maybe he matured at age 23 and started to play better but was already out of favor so didn't get consistent time isn't that far fetched that 1.5m to see how it goes is a bad deal.

3x of those managers are tat mind...

Seemingly controversial opinion judging by comments on here: I actually think Gray looks like a smart signing.

I've been very negative on here about much of what has gone on over the last few years (so certainly can't be accused of always looking for positives etc.), but in a team that is crying out for pace, getting a player in that area that certainly has talent, albeit he has never lived up to it, for £1.5 million in the modern game is really good.

He will certainly provide more than what we had there last season. I would be desperately disappointed if we didn't manage to get a top quality first-choice wide man in too this summer, but to improve the squad, it is a good move. Not every player can be exceptional and sometimes players just go off the boil, or it never works out for them, then they get to the right club and look a different player. Might happen for us. Low-risk, good move.

Townsend. . . not so sure tbh.

King doesn't have anywhere near the same level of pace and is a striker not a winger.

We never even got to see much of King as our tosser manager was too stubborn to give him a fair crack of the whip.
There was no need to give him a fair shot because he stinks. Which is the problem with Townsend.

It's a cheap reclamation project on a short enough deal and reasonable wages. It's like Bernard but with upside and no chance of getting stuck with him.
