Who else is there who can offer the quality of Ba, at a price within our range?

There's bloody no one. And he's only 26.

At this point I'd happily give him big wages (so long as they don't break our structure) just so long as we bloody sign him. I really can't think of anyone as good as him out there, who's financially feasible.

Not to say he's some kind of footballing God. It's just that these days we don't attract the best players, and Demba Ba to me looks like the best of the realistic bunch.

This to an extent. We can't give him parity with Teta with all this business with his knee e.g. Stoke didn't sign him on medical grounds. He be an expensive mistake. However, he should get what Yak is on; £55k.

Seeing as the Yak is more than likely to be going, then he ought to be getting a similar wage to that I'd have thought, unless we've decided to piss about with it, which appears to be the case, rather than get it sorted ASAP. If he is asking for £4m a year, thats way too much, it works out as slightly of £75k per week, I suspect that's quite a bit beyond our wage structure.

Spot on, but ive got a funny feeling were being tight and wont come to some comprimise with Ba and the deal will fall through. I'll be a bit gutted if we dont sign him now cos like some are saying, to get a player like him on the kind of deal where after, its a no brainer and nobody else out there with his qualities would be available for as cheap.

Moyesy knows what he's capable of and he's young and good so why not give him say, parrity (sp) with the likes of Yak, actually if Yak goes it'll be like giving Ba his wages!. But if he is asking for ridiculous amounts then there's nothing we can do about it really.

Saha is on £60K+ a week and his injury record is a lot worse than Ba's.

And actually, I'd not object to getting Saha off the wage books to get Demba here.
 
The problem is wages are always complicated - there may be issues that giving Ba lots of cash mean that other players want (or are entitled to it) as well. Sooner or later you end up like a West Ham or a Villa and all your cash goes on paying decent players lots of money rather than upgrading the squad significantly.

So its not just about being stubborn and not giving the player what he wants - its about managing all the club finances.

Plus some players have a tendency to ask for much greater than they are worth - remember Ravanelli - or the Brazilian bloke whos name Ive forgotten
