So basically is the way society of the 60's and 70's responsible for the children who shape society of today?

Some of the attitudes of the time are IMO partly responsible for some of the seeds sewn which society reap today. case in point, 'sexual revolution' - 'free love', what do we have now? the biggest teen pregnancy figures in europe. but what else, the breakdown of the family unit. It takes a mummy and a daddy to create offspring, theres the clue, (im not saying that single parents cannot and do not raise good responsible and respectful children, BUT, is there a correlation between absentee fathers and youth offenders?)

what a complete load.

There have been two occasions today where she has been wrongly accused, above is one such wrong allegation in regards to law and order. The other i skimmed over which was an unfounded allegation about climate and power.

Thatcher didnt create this society, she went about forcing responsibility on the nation ('buy your own homes') - its the ultra leftist, human rights hippies responsible for the current climate of crime and disorder. It is they that stand in the way of proper punishment.

When a person (host) contracts cancer, if caught early enough, surgeons operate and cut it out of the host so it cannot spread and do more damage.

What are you on about? QWhen has the "Ultra-Leftist human rights hippies" been in power? Its been Thatcher and her b@st@rd son Blair and their type of laissez faire thinking that has been running Britain for 30 years or so. Hmmm... that time span seems strangely relevant to this thread!

I dont think there is really, and if there is its very very small. A good parent is a good parent and a bad parent a bad parent regardless of whether they are as a family unit or not.

Sure in some cases a kid can turn to crime due to an absense of a male role model, but there are many more factors that send that kid down the path of crime then an absent father.

I think family and its role in society is overated, particulary marriage. Kids from loving familes often turn to crime as a form of rebellion, and often the so called loving family unit is anything but.

The social situation comes in to play as well. Is a kid from a poor family in a rough neighborhood more or less likely to turn to crime than a single parent kid who is middle class and lives comfortably?

  • 8th of November 1965. Murder (Abolition of Death Penalty) Act passed which effectively abolished capital punishment but provided for another vote on it "within 5 years." Treason, piracy with violence and arson in Royal Dockyards remained capital crimes.
  • 16th & 18th of December 1969. The House of Commons and House of Lords respectively confirmed abolition of capital punishment for murder.
did you catch the link to the man expelled from australia?

I assume you're asking me, but even if not i'm gonna answer anyway.

Why posts the bits about abolition of the death penalty? If it is to tie in with the Aussie Paedo and the death penalty in regards to him then i'm not gonna bother going down that road with you again, its all been said before and in this thread doesn't need to be said again.

But as for the guy coming back to England. Fair enough if he is an British citizen we shouldnt wash our hands of him and should deal with him if Australia rightly decided they dont want him.

The man has commited his crime and served his punishment, as per the whole justice system is based on. But in this situation, i.e. he is highly likely to re-offend then he should not be on the streets.

who taught you the difference between right and wrong?
who disciplined you?

My parents, and probably to a lesser extent other adults in my life, relatives, teachers, family friends etc etc. They all helped shape me to become who i am.

can you provide an approximation of the amount of years each spent with/on you?

Yeah I mean just look at how the Death Penalty has rid America of violent crime!

thats a tainted chalice, the sheer volume of guns available to anyone there leads to a warping of the numbers.

do you believe in good and bad?

one prompted by...

the method may have been a little crude, but, i believe i may have made the point i was trying for.

What is your point? Something to do with a family life/single parents i'd assume but where does my family life come in to it?

Clear and concise please to advoid any confusion.

be more specific if you want more specific answers.

Guns available in Canada too. Not so much gun crime though.
Do I believe in good and bad? Depends what you mean. Do I believe that what is right and wrong is eternally fixed, written in stone tablets? Do I believe in Good and Evil? Well no. No I don't. However I believe that generally what is good for me is good for most people, so morality is built on a system of mutual benefit but when society breaks down and you don't really know who your neighbour is anymore and you don't identify with anyone but yourself or at least a very exclusive closed group then you have a crisis of morality.

Just off the top of my head like. Maybe I'l develope that a bit more another time.

CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL THE KIDS WHO WERE BORN IN THE
1930's, 1940's, 50's, 60's, 70's and 80's!!

First, we survived being born to mothers who smoked and/or drank while they carried us.

They took aspirin, ate blue cheese dressing, tuna from a tin, and didn't get tested for diabetes.

Then after that trauma, our baby cots were covered with bright colored lead-based paints.

We had no childproof lids on medicine bottles, doors or cabinets and when we rode our bikes, we had no helmets, not to mention, the risks we took hitchhiking ..

As children, we would ride in cars with no seat belts or air bags.

Riding in the back of a van - loose - was always great fun.

We drank water from the garden hosepipe and NOT from a bottle.

We shared one soft drink with four friends, from one bottle and NO ONE actually died from this.

We ate cakes, white bread and real butter and drank pop with sugar in it, but we weren't overweight because......

WE WERE ALWAYS OUTSIDE PLAYING!!
We would leave home in the morning and play all day, as long as we were back when the streetlights came on.

No one was able to reach us all day. And we were O.K.

We would spend hours building our go-carts out of scraps and then ride down the hill, only to find out we forgot the brakes. After running into the bushes a few times, we learned to solve the problem .

We did not have Playstations, Nintendo's, X-boxes, no video games at all, no 99 channels on cable, no video tape movies, no surround sound, no mobile phones, no text messaging, no personal computers, no Internet or Internet chat rooms..........
WE HAD FRIENDS and we went outside and found them!

We fell out of trees, got cut, broke bones and teeth and there were no lawsuits/legal from these accidents

We played with worms(well most boys did) and mud pies made from dirt, and the worms did not live in us forever.

Made up games with sticks and tennis balls and, although we were told it would happen, we did not poke out any eyes.

We rode bikes or walked to a friend's house and knocked on the door or rang the bell, or just yelled for them!

Local teams had tryouts and not everyone made the team. Those who didn't had to learn to deal with disappointment. Imagine that!!

The idea of a parent bailing us out if we broke the law was unheard of.. They actually sided with the law!

This generation has produced some of the best risk-takers, problem solvers and inventors ever!

The past 50 years have been an explosion of innovation and new ideas.

We had freedom, failure, success and responsibility, and we learned

HOW TO
DEAL WITH IT ALL!

And YOU are one of them!

CONGRATULATIONS!

You might want to share this with others who have had the luck to grow up as kids, before the lawyers and the government regulated our lives for our own good.

and while you are at it, forward it to your kids so they will know how brave their parents were.

Kind of makes you want to run through the house with scissors, doesn't it?!

PS -The BIG type is because your eyes are shot at your age

Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!
At my school those are the biggest problems. People are too busy playing videogames to actually go out and do anything. I must say that is really one thing that i envy all you "experieced" folk about. Today everything has to be scheduled 3 days in advance and heaven forbid in Canada that you should be able to find anyone to go and play a sport outside.
