Discussion & help on depression & mental health related issues

I’m on a locum contract, so they will definitely bin me off if they want to, and there will be no come back for them.

Having said that, what if I actually WAS a victim of crime? I’m pretty sure this happened in the Tottenham area, which has a reputation as a bit of a crime hotspot, so who knows 🤷‍♂️

I’ve just reported it to British Transport Police. I got a reference number, but I don’t think it’s quite a CAD number. I’ll look into it a bit more this evening.

Thanks for all your help! Much appreciated!

It’s a crime reference number mate, just a transport police crime reference number, so it’s the same thing.

They cover the transport network, so they’re the right people to notify 👍

I don’t even know why I done that (said it happened on the Tube).

I guess I said that because the chance of theft on the Tube is greater. There were no thieves on that 476 bus imo; they were all old ladies etc. But of course, I don’t know who got on afterwards ☹️

It happened at about 16:45 this afternoon. I mentioned it to the TFL staff straight away, but I only reported it to the British Transport Police via their website in the past half hour.

I’m not very hopeful. I’m not sure I’ve even filled in the Transport Police’s form correctly. In the form, I said I think it happened on the Tube, but in reality I think I just left it on the 476 bus.

It’s a right old mess ☹️
The tube and the bus are governed by the same digital information laws and legal requirements to keep video for 28 days.

Try here.

Can you remember where you last had it - just to get your story straight for work ?

I’m pretty sure that I had it upon boarding the bus, but I can’t be 100% sure.

It was boiling hot, so I took my coat off, and had to carry my coat in my hand. I think I may have collected my coat instead of the bag upon leaving the bus. Carrying the coat may have kidded my brain into thinking I was also carrying my bag.

I think that’s what has happened tbh ☹️

I wouldn't worry just yet, yes it sucks having lost the item, but you can always say you panicked when you realised you had been targeted and your mind raced to your job so you splurted out everything you could think. It's not a super serious offence. Panic and stress fix nothing. But I know it's difficult to see when you are surrounded by it.
Try and calm down and try to stop catastrophising. There's things you can do to pursue this matter. Do you have the ticket stubs for your journey or phone receipts showing the travel? You know where you were and when.

Can I ask a slightly off topic question please... were you rushing home to catch the match and they've served that crud up?

End of the day, it's only a laptop and work are insured. You do what you can to pinpoint the theft, and take it from there. It's what they pay their insurance premiums for.

Unless you work for GCHQ (and I'm strongly guessing you don't) and it's got Nato's plan to counter the russian advance in Ukraine plans on it, in which case, you might be on for a grilling for an hour. ;)

I don’t know if you’ll get sacked for that will you?

I imagine the laptop is encrypted and protected to the balls so nobody can get access to it.

Things happen. People have lost and broken laptops in my place. You might get a telling off but sacking seems harsh.

Then again, you know your work place better than me.

Hopefully it turns up for you.

I don't even think you should get a 'telling off' if you have lost it etc for the first time, unless you were drunk and acting like an idiot or something. Losing something can happen anyone.

I once lost my passport on the way to a job I didn't get, and realised as I was walking into the interview. That was a good laugh, over 10 years ago and my gf still laughs at it

My mom is having brain surgery tomorrow for maximum safe resection of a large brain tumor. I'm not really religious, but please send good vibes, prayers, whatever positive force in the universe you believe in.

I just got done with spending 8 days in a cardiac unit with my dad now I'm in another state trying to get through this.
Hope it all goes/went well mate. Sending best wishes to you all.

Haha, thanks mate, I appreciate it!

I didn’t even know England were playing today tbh. I only realised when I saw all the pubs being busy as I eventually got home much later than planned.

You use your bank card with TFL, so there are no tickets or anything. Maybe that would let them know exactly when I started the bus journey, and when the tube journey started and ended, but I don’t think they will put that much effort into finding something that will probably never be recovered anyway.

Thanks for all your help! I also recognise that this is a comparatively minor issue when compared to some of the difficulties being spoken about in this thread. But all the help and advice has been much appreciated!

On the subject of jobs, I might have to sack someone on Monday which I am dreading.

It might end up being the right decision, but it's difficult as the person is really nice and suffers with anxiety but I can see why people above me would rather she is let go. As her manager I have been trying to stick up for her/back her but it has been getting more and more difficult. She is still in her probation and she hasn't been coming into the office, loads of (suspect) sick days which definitely will be down to anxiety but she tends to lie her way out of things which is why I'm struggling to constantly defend her. She said she has just got professional help which hopefully will save her, we'll see. The issue for me is trying to 'keep' her sometimes takes up all of my days with meetings etc which obviously shouldn't happen

My manager said he'd take my place to do it (with the head of HR), if I didn't feel comfortable to do it but I think I should do it really as I don't want to shy away from it really

Put it on every social media site you possibly can mate, maybe with mention of the loss of your job if it`s not returned and a small reward ?

Is there any chance to retrace your steps and find out where the bus terminal is and ask the office staff there to see if they can find anything on the CCTV, as most buses have CCTV for the protection of the drivers and to provide evidence of disorder etc ?

There`s always the possibility that it was stolen by way of a sneak theft, which is completely different than you losing it.
Exactly this.....saturate all socials with everyone you know. My sons car was pinched, and spotted within hours, not the same instance, but gets eyes and ears out there.

Just seen this, hope the surgery went well and your Mum is recovering. Sending good thoughts and best wishes.💙
