Discussion & help on depression & mental health related issues

I did quite a lot of counselling with a specialist who was amazing to be honest. That was all organised through my old job though so not sure if I could see him again!

Think I'll have too mate. Not being able to work is not an option with 2 (soon to be 3) kids and a wife on maternity leave. Hoping once I get my head around it I'll be ok, and as you say, starting a new job is stressful too so hoping once that's out the way I'll get back to something like normal.
True mate the job might help once you get into the swing of it,don't rule out the docs though and start wearing a condom to stop those super swimmers ;)

If you are in England, give first steps a call, I found them helpful and will be still seeing them even though I feel better.

A very happy and healthy New Year to all GOT members and lurkers.

As with Christmas, this evening being New Year's Eve can be a very melancholy and sad time for many. My thoughts and understanding are with all those in this community who are struggling with personal battles at the moment. I can, and have, felt your pain.

It is also a time to take stock and look forward. Whatever hopes you have for the coming year, please try to look after yourselves mentally as well as physically. Having the courage and strength to talk about our problems and seek help when needed, gives others the courage to do so also.

I salute the bravery and honesty of the folk in this thread, the humanity expressed in peoples anxieties and issues, and the overwhelming generosity of spirit and kindness shown here every day. People should be very proud of their contributions in this thread. This is, not merely a random online collection of Evertonians and football fans, but clearly something much more fundamental and enduring, lending support and advice to others every day.

Look after yourselves. When you are strong or stronger, it is not only you that benefits, but your loved ones and families.

Keep fighting and keep hoping.

I love this thread.

Yeah I can be a WUM and a PITA on other threads, but here is a place of solace and togetherness. It makes me feel stronger reading the positive outcomes, and reminds me I'm normal when I see people going through what I am.

Happy New Year to all of you.
Same to you and everyone.

I do love that people take this thread seriously. That's not to say without humour, as that's an essential part of life, but I'd thank everyone for treating this with respect in every way. And for treating all the users with the same respect, regardless.

Well done all who utilise this. Please do continue.

Happy new year all. After a cracking Xmas and the meds kicking in I am feeling a lot more positive about the coming year. I am very lucky in that my bro in law is a therapist . I saw him over Xmas and told him all how I was feeling. He reckons 1 in 4 suffer anxiety at some point in their lives. Anyway, he's given me details of a free website that he recommends to all his patients. You can do on line modular activities that are for a range of issues..... It's free so can't hurt to give it a whirl!!! Www.cci.health.wa.gov.au/resources/consumers.cfm. Sincere thanks to all who contribute here , it has helped me personally to know that I am not the only one suffering.....
Cheers

My sincerest wishes to everyone here for a happy new year. As others have said, this is an amazing community of people from all over the world with basically only one thing in common. What we also have found, though, is that in what can often feel like an unfair and cruel world, there are always people who care each other.

I'm hopefully emerging from a really dark, lonely place that I've been in and out of since I got divorced a few years ago. Just reading the posts by others in crisis and the way fellow Evertonians are always there with a kind word reminds me that I'm not alone. Knowing that and seeing it in action over and over gives me hope that we'll all achieve some level of peace and acceptance in our own way.
