I think we really need to stick with Lampard for the moment, we have to back him an bring in a creative midfielder and a fast direct forward in this upcoming window. If Lampard is still struggling then, that would be the time to pull the trigger. I would assume that Thelwell would be the one to sign the new players and so, I would hope that they would be players who would improve the options of any future manager, should Lampard fail.

If the inept gets had gone and secured Kudus and Brereton-Diaz for him and we were still in this position I'd want him gone. But they didn't. All they did was sell Richarlison over his head.

And I maintain that the purchase of McNeil was more than likely a spillover from the Burnley-PL-Everton potential legal action - Everton buying McNeil was the price to be paid to make it all go away on the quiet. Never in a million years will I accept Lampard has gone out and prioritised him over over a Richarlison replacement.

Would we ?

He was actually more qualified for the job than Lampard & he had the same ability lampard had to unite the fanbase.

That ability is not being Rafael Benitez
Yeah we would, especially considering he’s just been sacked from his current job, is a known hothead which wouldn’t have blended well and had a black mark by him for that Sky interview, he’d have been gone before the season was over

I don’t think it was ineptness on our end for Kudus, it was more stubbornness on Ajax’s part because of United messing them about all summer for Antony

With Brereton-Diaz it was the Venky’s changing their minds on his valuation come deadline day, we were happy to pay the fee then the price went up, we were happy to do the increased price, they put it up again

Never watched the Celtic game, and looking solely at the stats (0 shots on target) I’d have been concerned, but just watching the highlights we created 4-5 really good chances. Better forwards and we score a few comfortably.
I did watch it - live.
Celtic played it mostly...or so it seemed...in our 2/3rds of the pitch
Celtic played it mostly with a back 3...which hints at 7 players in MF and upfront.
One manager set it up like this...see above.

We mostly played with a back 5...which hints at 5 players in MF and upfront.

In the second half when we did somehow engineer a quick break...and we did 3 or 4 times, oft times the 'breakee' was not supported and/or if he was, he would not try to push on into the box, but rather stop, cut back and push it sideways/diagonally back.

He's had success in various places, who knows really.
he was more qualified then lampard.

I mean does any of that negate my point of "we made 4/5 really good chances"? Which at the end of the day is the aim of the game. For all of Celtics possessions and shots they had like 2 good chances from what we showed on the extended highlights.

Brerton diaz wouldn't have necessarily done much better than maupay anyway. Premier league is a completely different league. Might have done slightly better but who knows.

It's the only explanation as to why Lampard (who had the nous to look to Kudus and Brereton-Diaz) could have been handed McNiel to replace Richarlison. That Burnley 'legal case' went away pretty quickly once that deal had been done.

They didn't make an offer for Kudus they could refuse is the way I'd see it. The valuation for B-D as we can now see was fair. We missed out there. False economy.

The point being that Lampard can be trusted with cash to get a decent forward in January.

It seems that from latest reports cash might be hard to come by.

One thing that doesn't get talked about enough is the bum deal in squad composition he was handed after the Brands debacle.

He has the likes Gomes, Mina and Gbamin pulling 31.3 mill out of the club A YEAR in wages and fees - with no contribution to the team, squad or club. Thats before you look at Dele which isn't on Brands - still so much waste.

Its a big job to try and build within tight financial margins, given the bad decisions that have preceded him, he hasn't come into the job with a clean slate, its a work in progress turning this squad around and working with the depleting factors of the financial impact of poor deals that have preceded him as above and having to manage that. Thelwell to.

Its actually a scandal, the money some players are taking out of this club for their contribution - the architect all right.
