Dominic Calvert Lewin for Beto.

They're different types of target men. DCL should start because he suits hoof-ball better.

It's not a like for like substitution. They're different types of players.

I get the sentiment but I don't think we should or can sack him for that performance, I think the next international break is the likeliest time when it becomes feasible. But here is the thing, even Dyche will have to change his tune if he becomes the Manager with the worst win record this season after 7-8 games. He can't keep saying these are good players and also say we lost on the details. Whatever be the case, we need a bounce by the time the Villa Cup game turns up and I prefer it to be a New Dyche Bounce. The 'details' have to be kin' perfect.
I think the "can sack" is a key point, not sure we have the ability, not sure how it plays out with a "pending" takeover, Can Mosh still act, hes a loose cannon anyway but defo seems to be an "observer from afar" now so the only issue he has is how it affects his pocket money if it continues?

Im still of the get him out asap to give us a chance but I see your point and if there is no bounce soon hes a busted flush anyway.

A great time to be an Evertonian. How far we have fallen

Possibly the most manic substitution I've ever seen in professional football. Swapping a like for like striker when we're being run ragged all over the pitch. Neither of them had a chance with the set up behind them.

Seriously what was that swap for when changes were begging in other more vastly important areas? Truly shocked by that, anyone have a guess at why he did it? I'm still struggling to make any sense of it.
I'm sure I'll get pelters for this but I didn't mind the sub. Going 2 up top would have exposed us more. We were keeping Arsenal at bay, they just scored from a well worked set-piece.

Beto was probably tired from a lot of chasing, and as much as we all hate to say it, a point would have been a good result.

Don't get me wrong, our performance with the ball was horrendous, but getting fresh legs on at 0-0 and arguably a better option to win aerials was the least of our mistakes yesterday.

Beto and Dom together would be an utter fail as things are.
Need wingers and overlapping fullbacks to be putting in quality crosses. Can't remember one yesterday.
And quality CM partnership that can orchestrate attacks and defend in equal measure.

Compared to last few seasons we are better of for having competition for the 9 spot. You would think that would up both their games.
As thing stand the problem up front now is not Beto or Dom, its what behind them.

The best chance yesterday says it all.
With Doucoure on the counter Beto times his run to drag the defenders, all Doucoure had to do was cut inside the defender who was behind him, into the space created and quickly have a lash or pass through to Beto.
Instead Doucoure left it too late and to cut in, when he did his touch was so bad an u13s coach would've thrown his hands up.
Beto was left with a partner who seemingly thought his only option there was to fake a penalty, WTF!
This is not FIFA dreaming, this is a professional footballer who should be reacting to his 9s movement.

Dont think it would be a fail at all yesterday was not a game to play 2, but have said before luton at home why not atart both. Yea ofc we need crosses inyo the box but is also players be positive and releasing the ball faster.

Is that what the team will be reduced to - Pickford to Beto or Dom against Luton?

Is about every player defence midfield, with two cf one can pull into space while the other looks to keep the defence busy. Playing the ball forward instead of looking to play the safe ball. Is plenty of ways

He obviously decided "big men" were the answer to hold Arsenal to a stalemate. I'd have had Garner in the centre of midfield looking to get the play forward over Doucore any day of the week. We looked livlier straight away when he came on, sadly the game was then lost. Him missing from the starting 11 was a crucial mistake, as was Pattersons omission.

Yeah I mean if that was Garner instead of Doucoure he's not afraid to go inside earlier and the options open up, shoot, through to Beto or if closed down, out wide. Doucoure looks like a player who knows he'll get found out doing this. Even then he could've got a free from the player he cuts inside in front of. But his talent doesn't take him there. He's too busy chasing his touches.
Ideally Garner is playing CM rather than AM but it seems obvious there is no one else to play that 'midfield' role. (shouts for Danjuma and McNeil miss the point of that position, they need two fight for their wing spot)
In a weird midfield inverted triangle Dyche had Gana and Doucoure as our creative hope - probably the poorest of the options in all respects - in front of Onana.
Maybe Dyche argues that these two know how to get back, to keep running and tracking unlike Onana who ball watches and is still learning the defending lines. Sure, then don't invert, just play Garner ahead of two behind and give some sort of hope to the no.9 and wingers

HOOOF

A strange pointless sub no question.

To not change the system from the awful 4-5-1 thing we keep playing was poor.

Beto was isolated, as was DCL when he came on, as the wingers were so deep defending with the full backs and offering nothing going forward.

Yes, the ones we have in midfield = crap - thats why long balls to Beto & DCL should have been our aim to begin with ... we were never going to out play Arsenals midfield & his choice of fullbacks was astonishing too ... - hes lost the plot imo ..... First corner for us 71 minutes after going a goal down - our Manager was playing for a 0-0 from kick off - not acceptable imo ....

I think this is way OTT I thought it was a standard substitution I’ve probably seen us make worse this season nevermind ever.
