2018/19 Dominic Calvert-Lewin

we didn't give him a chance yesterday, the ball hardly went near him as we were too busy fanning around at the back. We were set up to defend tightly and hit the channels but we seemed to preoccupied with trying to outplay city from the back.

The problem we have at the moment is that none of our forward options look good enough to be leading the line every game. Richarlison is better on the left, and I think when he does pop up with a goal to his credit, he is still pretty ineffective for the rest of the game. Tosun hasn't worked out unfortunately and whilst I'd still like to see him have a chance to prove himself at the club, it doesn't look like the manager fancies him. He also hasn't done enough really to warrant a place.

Calvert Lewin is not good enough to be leading the line for Everton. He doesn't win as many headers as he should for me, and when he does he doesn't really direct them to our players for them to get chances. I think Otamendi won too much in the air against him considering Calvert Lewin had the height advantage. Having said that, it is very hard to play that role in this team, as highlighted by how much Richarlison and Tosun struggle at times. And I did think there was a clear improvement in DCL's performance once Walcott and Lookman came on. Was great to see that challenge he put in late on in the game too before that pathetic and dangerous one Delph did on him.

I think he is a good option to have coming off the bench in certain games. But my negative feeling towards him comes from the fact I see little quality in his play. It seems like he is an option to just come on and win headers and make a nuisance of himself. Niasse can come on and make a nuisance of himself but we know that's not going to take us to the next level. Would any of the other top teams entertain the idea of that kind of player? I don't think so.

In summary : All our forwards are pretty rubbish, despite us wanting them not be.

So you score a goal against the champions to bring your team back into touching distance and you don’t celebrate? Should tells the fans to pipe down when they start screaming after that scenario shall we?

Get the ball back and go for an equalizer. Who you are playing is not important. A consolation goal is not worth anything more than a quick high five or whatever.

Fans can do what they want, they pay to be there.

Never ending argument with Dom. Same argument from both sides. But here it is again.

The most important two attributes as a striker are to score goals and to utilise your opportunities. And he doesn't do this well enough. HOWEVER - the other attributes to complete a striker, he has got. He is quick, he is strong, he is dominant in the air (and he doesn't even realise it yet), he is good with his back to goal and he has a cracking attitude. If there is any player who can fix/enhance/vastly improve on ability to utilise opportunities by scoring he'll be good enough.

Judging him yesterday and any other time he has played, i think its clear he is bang average.

Bang average player scored vs City. Jesus and Sterling also scored so they are bang average. If you score, you are bang average.

He’s played 481 mins so far in the league which equates to just over 5 games and he’s got 3 goals. I think that can be seen as utilising your opportunities.

I've never been a critic cobber and see a massive upside in Dom and loaf suggestions of him being sold/binned.

Its more then easy misses, I'm speaking of when I mention utilising your opportunities. He has blown chances which you just cannot do as a striker - and I'm saying he WILL rectify this.

I have to say I don't understand the criticism DCL gets...

He has been a regular goalscorer this year & is progressing well...

Still only 21yrs he has the best years in front of him...

He is our best option as a striker going forward at present...

He does in fact now deserve a place in the team next week against Spurs...

Give him a run until we get better (hopefully next month,)in my view. He is raw but he's 21, no he's not clinical but he fits the role better than Tosun, has pace, has prowess in the air and works his ar*e off. Having him there will allow others to play off him in my view.
