If he develops into a top drawer first choice striker I don't care how old he is if he's doing the biz.

But if he hasn't developed as we hope and still knocking about as 3rd choice by the time he's 23/24, it's very unlikely he'll ever take that final step up. So I'd rather his place in the squad be taken by another up and coming youngster, either bought in or through the academy. The lad himself would probably be looking for more game time anyway by that stage.

Yeh, I’m mainly aiming it at those saying sign a first choice striker now AND sell him. Like we can’t he be back-up to develop at his age? To some we can only have one striker at the club apparently.

Yeah. He needs another 18 months at least. Depends on how much he has improved within that time frame as to whether we keep him a bit longer. But he'll be 23 by then and we should be able to get a handle on how good he can become.

Whatever happens I'm sure he'll have a decent career at Premier level.

If you include the muppets hating on Lukaku, then yeah, but 99% of us would be MORE than happy with DCL if he got around 15 goals a season, never mind 20.
DCLs biggest issue is scoring goals, if he improves and becomes a better finisher, he would be perfect for us. Thing is, most people doesnt belive he’s got it in him to score more than maybe 10 a season, which we all can agree isnt enough if he is to become our main striker.
Yeah I fully agree with your last point on 10 goals. The problem with our fans is they want a quick fix an whoever plays striker has to score (which is their job) but he is coming along in terms of improvement an I’m sure his finishing will become better the more he is learning. He has to be given a couple of seasons from now an keep improving season on season before people get on his case

An this is why our fans are so quick to abuse the players that actually could come good. He is prospect but has been shoe horned into the first team because of what we had in front of him not being good enough. I think it’s clear to see that he is improving his game just finishing but that goal Sunday should do his confidence the world of good

Yeah hes totally worth retaining, sure hes not quite there yet, but he seems to be improving for me.

Toxic fanbase only knows how to be toxic sadly.
I thought the atmosphere last weekend was a lot better and I’ve put that down to the feel good buzz arising out of the inspiring AGM.
The acid test will of course be the next home game: can the post AGM euphoria be retained or will the tofu eating whiners and whingers once again exercise control?...it’ll be an interesting battle of wills.
