Most people have no idea of what he is capable of though; I mean if you'd asked Spurs fans what they thought of Harry Kane at 21 they'd probably have said he was promising but not good enough to lead the line for Tottenham.

I am not saying he is in Kane's class, but at the same stage in his career Kane had 67 appearances and 19 league goals (one for Spurs, the rest for Orient, Millwall and Leicester); DCL is at 99 appearances and 20 league goals (9 for us). If we did what Spurs did with Kane (ie: had a manager who promoted, developed and rewarded youth) then we might find that we have an abundance of riches in the shape of him, Lookman, Kenny, even Davies and the rest of the u23 side that have spent the past few seasons conspiciously failing at being Everton.
I'll debunk this for the 47862nd time. At the same stage in his career, Harry Kane was just about to put his feet up having scored 31 goals in 51 games for Spurs, including 21 in 34 in the Premier League.

Thats not true.

At the age of 21, in his 5th season at Spurs he had scored 3 Premier League goals.
At the age of 21, in his 3rd season at Everton DCL has scored 9 Premier League goals.

At the age of 22, Kane scored 21 goals in a season.
DCL isnt 22 till March, he then has 2 months to score 15 to match Kanes record.

I'm no Rachel Riley like, but by my reckoning the 2014/15 season finishes in May 2015. Kane was born on 28 July 1993, meaning he didn't turn 22 until July 2015. That means he was 21 for the entirety of the 2014/15 season, during which he scored 21 PL goals. The final game of that season was 24 May, meaning Kane was 21 years and 10 months old, coincidentally exactly the same as DCL is now.

Sorry. DCL also doesnt have Pochettino as a manager, or have we bought Dele Alli, nor did Kane have to play under Koeman or Allardyce.

No shades of grey here. Apparently he’s either Harry Kane or he’s awful.

He’s 21? Give him time. If we’d done better transfer business the last few years he’d probably be on loan at Huddersfield or someone. Alas we didn’t so we have to rely on him when we shouldn’t. He’s doing well considering the weight on his shoulders.

Stop buying strikers in January- stick with DCL till the summer to give him a proper go and spend time scouting a proper option to buy come June.

I'm pretty sure the potential targets have already been scouted (what are they doing if not?) just a case of not being able to get them mid way through the season unless they are taking a punt on a lesser league player.

Nor, more pertinently, has DCL shown anything like the same goal scoring ability as Kane.

That’s what it boils down to, and it’s why this argument annoys me so much. DCL looks a good prospect to me. He’s already a decent player to have I think, and has the potential to get better. He’s pretty quick, pretty strong, and looks like he can link play. What he hasnt done though, is show any signs of being an out and out goal scorer. He’s looking better in that regard, but he just doesn’t look to me like he’ll ever be someone who gets you 30 a season.

The thing is, that’s fine. You’re getting all defensive because you think I’m knocking him, when I’m actually trying to defend him. For as long as people compare his record to kane, shearer etc (and they are, just saying ‘I’m not comparing but...’ doesn’t change that) he’ll look poor. I think it’s much more beneficial to look at players like Firmino and giroud and say you can be a really effective top quality striker without needing a goal scoring record better than 1 in 2.

I think people arguing the Kane thing miss the point which is that players can develop/improve at different ages.
