The haters will always be haters even if he scored 20 a season people would still say he isn’t good enough. As people have said we are having to use him because the other 2 options just aren’t up to the grade. He has come on since he signed and if he keeps working hard who knows what we could get out of him. He isn’t where we as fans want a striker to be right now but unfortunately we don’t pick the team or the players that come in so there is no point whinging about it just be happy for the lad when he comes on and scores like he did Sunday. Without that goal that would of been a very nervy end but instead he came on and killed the game off properly.

One swallow doesn't make a summer. Regardless of his goal against Bournemouth, he still needs to work on his overall game. It just isn't good enough at all. Better hold up play and more intelligent runs off the ball is a great start. Then he needs to add more consistency if he truly wants to become his 'potential'. We can't afford to wait around until hes 25 to see if he's good enough, we still need a striker in pronto.
Has anybody on here actually said that we should be relying in him now as our first choice striker with no intention of bringing anybody in?

Id be lying if I said I knew of the top of my head. But i get the gist that the club are trying to pass him off as our main man game by game. With our new sell to buy transfer method going forward he's a get out jail card to not buy a striker.

Sorry mate. Not having the old sell to buy crap one bit.

The situation is we have nearly 40 senior players on our books (including those on loan). Common sense says we need to offload a good 15 just to get down to normal squad size of 25. That is not a sell to buy policy. That is a necessity due to the disgraceful transactions of the previous 2 regimes.

I doubt anybody in the club or on here believe that DCL is the answer to our striking problem right now. He may be the best of a bad bunch but he isn't good enough now to be our first choice. I'm pretty certain that both Brands and Silva would walk if they thought that was the clubs intention/policy.

Plus wouldn’t we start every game if the club were trying to pass him off as our main striker. Surely the fact we play a left-winger up front shows the club know we need a striker.

What we have are two crap strikers, being Tosun and Niasse, and a third who is young and not yet ready to lead our line as a regular starter. Maybe he never will be.

You repeatedly say you don't hate DCL, but your posts say otherwise. I don't ever see you going on to the Niasse and Tosun threads but you ridicule DCL at every opportunity.

That’s because niasse and Tuson don’t play mate

I Completely get that old regime is still under repair. But we have needed a quality striker since Lukaku left in 2017. Now I know we bought Tosun but he was never going to be a replacement for a £75 million proven goalscorer in the EPL. Which surely means we have a lot of faith and belief in DCL as Niasse is not even worth a mention. Silva has already stated that he doesn't want any new signings to disrupt his 'development' , again shows that he confident in DCL. But as we see on the pitch he's not good enough.

That’s not true tho, I do t rate him at all, but if he scored 20 goals a season then I would rate him.

People hated Lukaku for his laziness. If the lad is putting the ball in the net and that benefits us winning games then im happy.

The article about Brands revamping the academy suggests that he may be having some influence in us playing DCL at the moment.

“Our aim was to get players aged between 18-22 into the first-team and you have to have a good programme.
“It is a problem in England. The youth teams don't play a lot of hard games and Marcel will understand that.”

It therefore makes sense that if Silva / Brands doesn't rate Tosun or Niasse, then they should use the opportunities this season to give minutes to DCL to help his development, and that Brands may be actively pushing for this.

If you include the muppets hating on Lukaku, then yeah, but 99% of us would be MORE than happy with DCL if he got around 15 goals a season, never mind 20.
DCLs biggest issue is scoring goals, if he improves and becomes a better finisher, he would be perfect for us. Thing is, most people doesnt belive he’s got it in him to score more than maybe 10 a season, which we all can agree isnt enough if he is to become our main striker.

Most people have no idea of what he is capable of though; I mean if you'd asked Spurs fans what they thought of Harry Kane at 21 they'd probably have said he was promising but not good enough to lead the line for Tottenham.

I am not saying he is in Kane's class, but at the same stage in his career Kane had 67 appearances and 19 league goals (one for Spurs, the rest for Orient, Millwall and Leicester); DCL is at 99 appearances and 20 league goals (9 for us). If we did what Spurs did with Kane (ie: had a manager who promoted, developed and rewarded youth) then we might find that we have an abundance of riches in the shape of him, Lookman, Kenny, even Davies and the rest of the u23 side that have spent the past few seasons conspiciously failing at being Everton.

Why can’t we sign a striker and keep him around till he’s 25
If he develops into a top drawer first choice striker I don't care how old he is if he's doing the biz.

But if he hasn't developed as we hope and still knocking about as 3rd choice by the time he's 23/24, it's very unlikely he'll ever take that final step up. So I'd rather his place in the squad be taken by another up and coming youngster, either bought in or through the academy. The lad himself would probably be looking for more game time anyway by that stage.
