Unless we get CL we are not getting a 20 league goals a season striker. 20 goals is better than 1 in 2 in a 38 game league. It's simply not realistic. If dom can add another 5 this season, that's huge progress on its own.

We need another slotter though but i won't be holding my breath for a 20 a season guy.

With our current attacking style I think this is realistic, we just have to be shrewd in the transfer market.

He doesn't have to add 20-25 , it isn't as if he scored none last season.
I think he scored six goals last season and it was really in the last quarter that he became a regular starter.
To get to twenty he has to add fourteen goals and if he played from the start every week and had a full season you would expect that he would increase his tally from last season.
It is not as far fetched as you seem to think .
You did say add 20-25 goals to be fair...

I know what you're saying, but it's not necessarily that straightforward. For one, adding 14 goals is a hell of a jump. Scoring more than 3 times as many goals is not just a little improvement, it's a stratospheric leap.

Secondly, and quite importantly, you can't just assume that more starts equals more goals. If anything, he seemed to struggle more to score when starting up front last year. Of those 6 goals you mention, one came from the wing, and 2 came as a sub, so he only actually scored 3 from his 17 starts as a striker last year, including a run of 0 goals from 7 games when enjoying his longest run in the side.

I'm not saying this to have a go at him, I just think it's important to be realistic about what we can really expect from the lad.

That is true, but the more time he spends on the pitch the greater chance he has of scoring.
I think a lot will depend on how the team will be set up and that will depend on the signings we make in the window.
At the end of the season I thought that DCL was playing an important role for the team, but not a role which increased his chances of scoring. He ran the channels, chased down defenders, contested the first ball and created breaks for others to get onto the ball.
I believe playing the role he does that it would be difficult to score twenty goals a season, but in a full season I think he could easily score 15 , as he scored six last season in really his first season.

How many Premiership strikers will score 20 goals next season, probably three or four at best and the value of each of those will probably be over 100m.

Totally agree

Getting a 20 goal a season striker outside the top 5 is a massive ask

But we should be aiming for a forward who can get us at least double figures, Even the bottom teams like Fulham/Burnley and Newcastle managed that

DCL has 11 goals in 80 games, I don't know how any blue with a shred of ambition thinks this lad is good enough

I said on here yesterday, I wouldn't take the 20 goal thing so literally, it's just a widely used way of saying good goalscorer, nobody would be complaining if he got 17.

I’m a fan of him and I think he will score more than last season but we need to be getting another striker in who can score goals against teams that just stick 10 men behind the ball - somebody with pace who can make a yard of space for themselves, lose his marker and finish well. Could argue that Richarlison is capable of that but right wing does seem to be his best position for the moment.
